Im finishing up the last spring on my car and am currently dismantling some of the suspension. I took off the cotter pin and castle nut on the tie rod end. I'm using a hammer on top of it to try to knock it loose but it wont budge. Wont even move at all. I just did it on the other side and am doing the exact same thing on this side, just wont come loose. Any tips? I sprayed with pb blaster last night and thought that would help but no go. Im giving it all I got!

 

I had to borrow a tool from autozone to try to get mine off. Honestly im amazed you got the other side off, those things are ******* unbelievable. I thought i was gunna shatter my hammer before i have up.

Its like a huge tuning fork honestly. If you have a local autozone they will rent it to you for free. You have to pay like 15$ but its returned as soon as you return the tool. This is the exact tool i used. http://www.greatnecksaw.com/images/p...arge/25201.jpg But it never came off actually.

I didnt have to remove it actually, i had bad directions. All i was doing was installing lowering springs, and the shitty directions said i needed to remove them and i definatly didnt have to.

 

Once you get them off the first time, it's easier the next time. If you need it off get the tie-rod removal tool and a big hammer. It will help to have an extra set of rubber tierod end covers as you'll probably tear yours. Beat on it every which way. Takes a lot more effort than you might think it would deserve.

 

Well, I'm installing springs as well and going off of the AM directions posted on there. Don't you have to remove the tie rod end in order to lower the A-arm?

 

UGH **** AMs directions dude, if your just installing springs dont listen to their ****. You dont not need to remove the tie rod end to lower the A Arm, those ******* directions are wrong. Gime a sec ill find correct instructions for springs.

You don't have to remove the tierod, but it can make it easier to get it out of the way. I prefer to remove the tierod from the spindle and lossen the a-arm bolts a bit, everything just slides down nice and easy.

 

And what happens if I damaged the tie rod in an angry fit to loosen it?

 

Beat the living snot out of it. You'll probably have to beat on the side to get it loose, just try to make sure that you don't gall the threads on the end. It's a PITA especially the first time, but trust me it takes some backbone.

 

To remove the stock springs you should definitely lose the tie rod ends, otherwise good luck getting those monsters out..

 

Maybe vert springs are different but mine were cake. Prybar and they popped right out. Much easier than removing the tie rods. My advice, if you dont have to take em off, ****** dont. If you do your gunna need someone very strong.

It was SOOOOOO much easier dropping the strut, and it didn't take nearly as long.

 

Np man, AM really needs to change those directions.

 

Guys... easy way to remove a tie rod: take a small sledge hammer or big brass hammer and bang on the side of the dealie it plugs into. 2-3 good whacks and it usually pops right out. You don't have to hit it hard enough to damage things, just enough to give it a little shock. That's how I used to get them out of my IRS when I was all the time doing repairs on it.

 

Brass hammer is your friend.
