Rack/Front Suspension, Busings?
Anyone have any recommendations on what to upgrade to? I have some pretty good slop in the steering, probably about .25-.50" of "dead space" in my wheel, what can I do to firm up the steering?
Steering Rack Bushings? http://www.maximummotorsports.com/st...roducts_id=466 Anything else? If I was to consider upgrading the actual rack itself, what if any brands do you guys recommend? Thanks for your help! |
Those MM alum. bushings are exactly what you want. I felt a big difference when I installed those. However, they won't solve the dead space in the wheel, that is going to be a rack/steering shaft issue. Steering shafts are pretty expensive, but MM would have what you want. I would upgrade to a 03/04 Cobra spec rack, they have a different T-bar that is a little bit better than ours. I would start with the bushings and see how you like that and then make a decision on anything else. They go a long way to cure mid-corner wobble, and improve feeling through the steering.

I just checked with a guy on Corral and he can get me the Bushings + the Solid steering shaft for $285 shipped.. Is the steering shaft worth it? If I decided to upgrade the rack, it should be transferrable, right?
I just really hate the slop feeling in the wheel, just another one of those little things that drives me nuts. |
I can't say first hand if the steering shaft is worth the price, I have heard it is if you really want to get rid of sloppy steering. The bushings are well worth the $45 though.

Steering shaft, poly rack bushings (unless you have a tubular K, then use aluminum), poly A-arm bushings. Those 3 bits should really firm it up.

Is there any reason for me to go with the offset bushings? I do have an aftermarket K-member..

I just like doin' everything right, or at least as much as I can. I don't like doing stuff twice, so if I have to spend a little more time/money to do it right the first time I will! :D

man its been nice here...I got to ride a motorcycle every day so far this week. It's been total cloud cover here for the last 4 days and not above 50* with chances of rain every day. Supposed to be nice the rest of the week until Saturday night with another chance of rain. |

Just today as I was waiting for some paint to dry, I bored out a hole in my rear fender where a rust patch was with a pair of scissors. Got it to be about the size of a 50 cent piece. |
EVAN: If you have an aftermarket K-member AND you have lowered your ride height AND there's a significant difference in the angles of your tie rods to the ground and the A-arm to the ground at ride height, then yeah, it's a good idea.

The steering shaft does have a hefty price tag but it's worth the money. I have one installed and there is zero slop in the steering. IMO its a must if you autoX or road race.
