emissions

I have an o/r h and a tuner. The tuner shut off my error codes. At emissions they said I didnt pass or fail, I was marked as Rejected. I have two nodes that are currently "not ready". I am assuming that the tuner cannot help this. Am I looking at putting cats back on just for the trip to the emissions place? I thought that since the tuner turned off the error codes I would pass emissions no problem.

your rear 02's are disabled and not ready. Re-enable them and you'll throw a code for cat efficiency. So yeah, you gotta put cats on the car or it won't pass. I'd stick your stock H-pipe on it, re-enable the rear o2's and go in for a re-test.

All the tuner does is shut off the sensor which is actually setting it to ignore.

hmm ok thx.
I guess I will have to get a new h just for the test, I sold my stock one.

Get MILs. They trick the rears into thinking the cats are there and working. Then, turn them back on and check to make sure thee computer gives the OK for inspection.

By the way, you do realize this is the suspension forum, right?

I didnt post it here, it was moved. Atleast, I think it was.

Thanks about the mils suggestion, I had forgotten about those.

Another quick question.

I was rejected because two nodes were not ready. After I get mils and allow the tuner to not eliminate the check engine light, will one of the two nodes be set to ready status? I need it to be set to ready status.

Both rear o2's are a sensor. Once you put the mils on, disconnect battery for 10 minutes, reconnect and drive about 100 miles mix city and highway. Go in and have them check if all the sensors are showing ready before they do the actual test. If your EGR is disabled, re-enable it.

Hmm interesting. I live in NY and have been thinking about an off-road pipe also but looks like the turn-off-the-rear-O2's won't work.

Why do you guys think I'm always bitching at people for not having cats. It's a real PITA to have to swap pipes every year for what... 3hp?

Danimal1209 03-09-2010 04:00 PM

the exhaust tone with no cats sounds much better imo.

60 bucks for mils is fine, Ill never have to swap pipes either. K, thats what I am gonna do, thx guys!

Kyanbi 03-09-2010 05:54 PM

60 for MILs is cheaper than getting cats is it not red?

Danimal1209 03-10-2010 06:01 AM

yeah cats are more expensive, plus I would have to pay to have them installed.

Mils is the way to go.

Get a tuner to check the status of the OBD-II tests. I'm sure one is the catalyst efficiency one and the second is either the EVAP test or the O2 test. Anyway, if you can't wait 100 miles, search the forum for the topic posted by me about it. In it, a link is posted about the procedure to clear those codes by driving in various conditions. When I did it, I got everything cleared except the EVAP and somehow NJ still passed me.

Danimal1209 03-12-2010 05:27 AM

My emissions place said that I just need 1 of those 2 nodes to be reading "ready". 1 can still be set to "not ready"
