Cut stock springs

Ok, so i want to lower my car, but just not very much. So i have talked to a couple ppl and have wanted to know yalls oppenion on this idea, I was going to pull my springs and cut the dead coil off, then put them back in w/o the iso.
good or bad idea??
pros and cons of idea
and how much will it effect the ride qualitiy??

zigzagg321 09-16-2007 12:00 PM

dont do it. a set of decent lowering springs is not very expensive at all.

When you cut springs you are compromising their design, thus compromising your ride quality and handling.

Evil Stang 09-16-2007 01:21 PM

Cuttign the dead coil won't do much as far as lowering.

JayC 09-16-2007 03:29 PM

OMG....don't cut your springs! I cut mine and as you can see in the vid it ruined my handling :D http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6...6a009ef429.htm

r3dn3ck 09-17-2007 08:44 AM

Don't do it... you'll bottom your car and trash your k-member. Just spend the damned money or don't do it at all. It's not worth wrecking your car over.

I've cut stock springs it's a profoundly BAD idea.

mr triple six 09-17-2007 10:34 AM

yea never cut ur springs unless u wanna be known as a ricer. or an idiot.

Evil Stang 09-17-2007 06:01 PM

I've cut sprigs on fox 4 cylinder and Eibach drag srping with no ill effects, but i don't run the twisties.

PColav6 09-17-2007 06:09 PM

Cutting the springs is a bad/rice move.

I run 13.0s with a stock car, have done ALL the work on my car, have build 10 second cars from the ground up, have tuned 8 second cars, yeah I'm a ricer. If you can do what i've done, fire away, if not shut the fuck up.

zigzagg321 09-17-2007 06:38 PM

whats good for a drag aint real good for anything else.

Alright when you start driving your 13 second car around the town for a few months and have to start replacing shit, I'll be there saying "told you so"

JayC 09-17-2007 07:04 PM

It's obvious none of you have ever cut springs. :smokin:

This happens to be a Mustang board. T-Birds have independant rear suspensions:D

A friend on mine cut his springs on his ford contour.

I think he's glad it got wrecked and he got a civic afterwards, lol.

ok...heres a reason not to that you can't dodge...SPRINGS ARE SUPER CHEAP AND EASY TO INSTALL IN YUR DRIVEWAY.

Everyone makes mistakes:smokin: But if you remember the original question was about a Mustang and this is a Mustang board:cool:

JayC...King of stating the obvious. lmao.

PColav6 09-17-2007 07:35 PM

I reached enlightenment! This....is a Mustang board!

dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun

SxyXc 09-17-2007 08:29 PM

ok, i won't cut them and save some $$ for a pair of somthing like eibach pro.

and wow really this is a Mustang Board. who would have thought that???

but other cars do count too. expecialy if they are ford. they have atleast 1 thing in common then

PColav6 09-17-2007 08:34 PM

You just want to lower the car right?

I'd go with some H&R SS's.

SxyXc 09-17-2007 08:41 PM

Acutally thinking about it, i would like to do something like coil overs more, but how expensive are they?? and if i went H&R SS wouldn't i need cc plates??

PColav6 09-17-2007 08:45 PM

you wouldn't need CC's..but that won't hurt.

Really just ask zigg..he's probably the only one here with more money invested into suspension then anything else. He's got all that shayit.

spike_africa 09-18-2007 07:43 AM

You can totally cut the dead spring off the top of a ford mustangs coil spring. It does nothing to the ride and doesnt change the spring rate at all. Its called a "dead coil" for a reason. However it wont handle any better and its just gonna sit lower. Might as well just get used springs, thats what i did.

actaully R3dn3ck has more $$ in suspension than I do...plus he's WAY better at explaining that stuff too.

r3dn3ck 09-18-2007 10:22 AM

I've had all the experiences you're likely to encounter. I've cut springs (stupid stupid stupid move = major regret), I've use steeda, eibach, H&R and hypercoil springs on my cars, I've had stock, IRS, TA/PHB type rears on them. I think I have the right to say I have more experience in matters of suspension than most of you. After 14K dollars invested to finally arrive with a $8K suspension I've learned a thing or two. No offense.

Evil Stang... you're kinda new to be making with the STFU's... so here's one right back at you. What works for a 10 second drag car is bad for a street car's handling and braking. Making fast times on a track is great if you only drive 1/4 mile to work and there's no lights, potholes, other cars or speed laws.
