Tokico HP Shocks/Struts
 

Are these good Shocks/Struts? I plan on buying H&R Super Sports which will give it a 2" drop along with some CC Plates. I know Tokico is a good brand but wanted to know about this product specificaly. This is on an 04 GT if that matters. Thanx

2" is too low. Don't go below 1.5" lower in front. It fuggs up the geometry too bad to be worth the hassle. If you want that low, go MM coil over.

The HP's are a bit soft for the super sports. I would also call the super sports a bit stiff for daily driver type cars.

If you're dead set on the super sports, then use Tokico Illumina's. If you're wanting to match components, then the HP's should be paired with H&R Sports or an equivalent sport spring. Super sports are just this side of way too damn rough.

I only drive it on weekands and i don't take it to the track so i'm not realy doing it for performance. Mostly looks. but when you say it will have a rough ride what do you mean? does it matter if driving on flat roads? With a 1.5" drop will it bring the fender about down to the tire? thats realy how low i want it.

regardless of how it's used you need to have a balanced system. The springs and shocks work together. So the combo's I listed are really about optimum.

By rough ride I mean little bumps become big bumps and big bumps become even bigger. Stiffer springs means a heck of a lot more force required for them to even respond to a bump, much less dampen it. It doesn't matter where you drive... it's never going to be all that smooth all the time.

If you want the fender at the tire, put bigger wheels on it and lower it 1.5" and not a penny more. Otherwise you'll have about 1" of gap which you really kinda need.

In any case, whatever you get, get the foxbody struts (struts only). they're a half inch shorter and will restore some bump travel.

If you want it lower then -1.5" then do it right and go to a full MM coil over and control arm kit. Then you'll be able to correct the geometry from the super low ride. Lowering is not for looks. Lowering is a change to suspension...that thing that keeps your arse from scraping the ground. Be nice to it.
