I actually agree with you 100%. When it comes to waiting tables, you just have to take the good with the bad. I took two clients to lunch today. The plant manager I was with knew the waitress, so I gave her 30%. I always tip 20% for good service which is most of the time. I also generally frequent the same places and the servers usually remember us.

Went to dinner last night with the family. My kids don't eat kids meal crap, they like the adult stuff, but the portions are too big. The waitress split an adult meal for the kids plus did not charge us for the kids to eat at the salad bar. The bill was $60 and she got $20 on top of that.

It's strange, but it makes me feel good to tip big.

Now, here is a cool story. About 5 years ago we had a sales meeting at a Ski Resort in NY. We got snowed in an extra day. There was one waitress who waited on all of us for dinner etc.... She could have gone home, but stayed for us and there were about 30 of us. Her tip that night was over $400! She cried when she got the money. The company was buying the food, so everyone just kept throwing money on the table for the tip.

Thats pretty sweet. <grin>
always tip around 20%, unless the service sucked then i tip maybe 10%.

However, whenever i go to my local watering hole im sure to tip the bartender 50% and up. They get to know you real quick, next thing that round of jager-bombs you ordered somehow never makes it to the bill. <rofl> I love it, i can go there, have 5-6 22oz budlights and a shot of patron and get a bill for 10 bucks. Toss down 20, the bartender gets a 10 dollar tip and im still paying less than what i should have. <ROFL>

I remember telling my dad about that and he thought i was insane. He tips 10% if the waiter/waitress REALLY busts thier ass. Never a dime more. I explained to him that if it is a place you like and will go to often, take care of them and they will take care of you. :devil2:

I used to tip $5 on a $7 drink when I was 19-20... got a bar tender that didn't card me once because it was a slow weeknight, gave her a big tip, went to her every time after that, never got carded because she wanted the tip again.

Damn I want to go back to the island.
