Dont Ever

Shop at ****ing SHITTY CITY (Circuit City)!

This is a long ****ing story, but ill try to keep it short and to the point (im T'ed).

I started working for Ccity in August of 2004 as a seasonal customer service rep @ $7.75/hr. I WORKED MY ASS OFF and eventually held TWO different asst. management positions @ $12.35/hr and for those of you who know in the retail world it is practically unheard of for anyone seasonal to even continue working w/ the co. much less asst. management, training for store mgmt.

I was with the Co. for nearly 2 years Constantly within the top 5-10 in the REGION! When a manager from another Ccity store approached me begging for me to come to his store, because his numbers were horrible and he needed help! My first thought was 'no, his store is too far away (nearly 100mi round trip through heavy downtown traffic) but I was currently not getting along with one of the new managers of the store I was in (he came from new orleans because of katrina) and thought he was god's gift to circuit city even though he had NO EXPERIENCE in retail.

Anyway, I went to the other store (against my better judgement) and I really got along with the store manager, slowly but surely I helped that store gain big #'s and their sales started going through the roof! Well, after 2 years, I finally get to go on a vacation (9 days) I come back and my world is rocked. The manager previously mentioned from N.O. had been put in my new store as the STORE manager, and the previous Store Manager had been moved to another store in the district..

I decided to just go on about my business as usual. Keep in mind the entire 9 days that I was gone the tech dept only made budget 2 DAYS! Is this my fault? I think not.. The other 7 days they were less than 50% EVERY DAY! I came back and 1st day back 250% BY MYSELF (friday), 2nd day 185% (saturday), BY MYSELF and 3rd 150% (sunday) again BY MYSELF! As you can see, I was the rock in that store, it was me that pulled in the numbers, ME period, no discussion!

Now, Retail stores change all expired sales tags on Saturday nites, I stayed until 2:00am (keep in mind i was scheduled until 11:00pm, stayed 2hrs late to help the store!) Sunday morning and didn't get home until about 3:00am. The new store manager changed the schedule and told me to come in at 10:00am the next morning! Im like F***! I woke up Sunday morning, get ready and head to work.. Wreck on the interstate, called and said look im going to be late I have no way to get around this wreck. I get to work, everything's cool and I have another great day. Next day I show up an hour early, to help get the store ready. An hour later the new manager fires me for being late...

I worked with that Co. for 2 years, busted my ass and took only ONE vacation in TWO YEARS! And this is how I am treated!>!>?!?!

Well, now im having trouble finding another Job, so I decide to file for unemployment it has now been 5+ weeks and I haven't recieved any checks!? WTF is going on? Well, I finally get ahold of someone and guess what.. Circuit City made sure that my claim was denied by putting BS excessive tardiness/ abscense.. I MISSED ONE DAY IN 8 MONTHS! Needless to say im appealing this. Appeal has already been filed, and im ready to start boycotting Ccity.

If this is how they treat employees, imagine how they treat their customers!?...

Im really ready to kill someone.... Like, I mean.. Death, like how Jack would kill someone and throw them in a trunk..

:godamnit:

Why dont you look for a job at Best Buy? You'd be surprised how they like taking in people from their competitors. Personally i'm not biased at all between the two go go to the one that has the better price.

Believe me, That was the first thing I did, but they only offered me $10.16.. Far cry from $12.35.

I took my drug screen and have already applied and interviewed with Sprint, so hopefully Ill be getting the good news from them soon.

Base + Commission, can't be beat. about $8.00 - 9.00/hr + huge comission. Can make between $6-8000/ mo in comission only.

Icefreezen 12-06-2006 04:05 PM

Good deal. See you worked up the ladder at CC and they want you to do the same at Best buy. But sprint and commision sounds right up your alley.

Most definitely is.. Let's put it this way..

CCity asks 10% City advantage (warranty) to your total Sales /mo.
3.5% PC installs to yout total sales/ mo.

My average for 12 mo was roughly:
Total Sales per mo: $75,000-$125,000
City advantage 12-18% +
Installs 5-10% +
Average employee does about half that.

If that's not going above and beyond, I don't know what is..

Plus Circuit City doesn't pay any commission, or give any bonuses.. So to say the least I was ebing jipped.. Big-time..

01GTBlown 12-06-2006 04:33 PM

Thats shitty, but Sprint sounds like a good deal!

Ugh... guys like that need to have the shit beat out of them on a regular basis.

No offence to you and your previous employment, but nothing is worse than some arrogant prick in middle management in a retail location. They get this huge power trip and think they are gods gift to everything, and seem to get off on making other peoples lives miserable.

Think of it this way. this is an opportunity to get a new job that pays better and gives more opportinitys for advancement. No offence, but you were there far too long. Your performance numbers show you obviously are a bit too good and doing this and need to move on to something more challanging.

Him firing you might have been the best thing that happens to you, cause a year from now when yer making 5 bucks an hour more than his worthless ass you can have fun like wiping your ass with a 20 dollar bill. WaLKING UP TO HIM, DROPPING IT ON THE GROUND, AND WALKING AWAY WHILE A BUDDY VIDEO'S THE GUY ACTUALLY PICKING IT UP AND PUTTING IT IN HIS WALLET WHEN HE THINKS YER OUT OF SITE.

oops, hit caps. too lazy to retype.

anyways. it sucks people like that are around. You get one whack at life. It is already hard enough without some ignorant shithead trying to make it more difficult for no reason other than they can.

That is why he goes home to his shithole apartment and sits along and crys hinmself to sleep cause he is a worthless shithead and nobody wants anything to do with him

stang00 12-06-2006 05:00 PM

haha u should steel a car and run his dirty ass over then back up and do it again

The worst thing is...

Like I said, He had no experience. Circuit City was in the process of building a new store in New Orleans and he was working in a hotel. A hotel where Ccity just happened to be housing their employees until the store was built. He arranged for their rooms and a few days later the Store manager that set up the rooms at the hotel called him and BAM, he was in his first retail job, and in a management position.. No less.. Then Katrina happened and he was somehow moved up here.. :shakeno:

I completely understand that this is my chance at 'starting over' I gave up alot for Circuit city, most of my teen years.. Im only 19, but I worked like I was 35, as much as possible and as hard as possible. I even ****ed up in school and didn't graduate because I was working so much.

I have since Finally Graduated High-School with a 3.84 GPA and am about to start looking into college. So, yes it is a new beginning for me and im ready for it.

Umm, mid- 20's, and he makes about $60-70k +bonuses. Management get's bonuses, not employees.

He's a store-Director now.

Store Mgmt.
Tech makes about $40k
Entertainment about $45-50k
asst. store director $50-60k

all + Bonuses.

Well, To me that is far from chump change.. I worked my ass off and still only brought home about $25,000 gross last year..

Hopefully if this Sprint deal goes through ill be somewhere around $50k starting off + bonuses + free cell phone + no bill + ins. from day one + 401k 5% matching + paid vacation from day one...

Sorry to hear about your work situation.

My brother was an assistant director for the HR dept for a hospital in Austin and one of his jobs was dealing with unemployment claims. Most large/small businesses/corporations will submit claims of employee inadequacies in 100% of all employee termination unemployment claims. Often siting erroneous, exgerated or falsified allegations. This causes the claimant to file for an appeal and increases the amount of time before the corporation has to actually pay any money to anyone. This is bureaucracy at its finest and truly only serves to benefit the business/corporation. The claiment gets mired in paperwork and appeals hearings, increasing the humilation and anger of getting fired, all the while not recieving any sort of income.

The business/corporation's goal is to prolong the process as long as possible, the thinking being that by the time they have to actually be required to pay someone, that person will have already found a job and their appeal will be rejected. Business' are required to have Unemployment insurance, and the more claims that they have to pay out, the higher their premiums will be.

Thinking about this whole process will sicken you beyond tolerance. Bottom line, its all about money, there is no humanity in it at all. I doubt your old boss did anything other than file the papers of your termination to the corporate office, from there it was on auto pilot.

The second my brother got a termination notice from a dept director, he filed the apropriate forms with the unemployment office within hours if not sooner. Thus guaranting a denial of claims.

Ironically, my brother ended up getting fired from the hospital. Office politics can be a bitch, but he knew enough of the process that he drove directly from the hospital to the unemployment office to file his claim and appeal on the same day lol, he waived his right to a appeals hearing and had a sumary judgement the next day and recieved his first check a week later.

Well.. I've been employed for almost 3 years by their competitor. I've seen a lot of rough things happen, but that's just ridiculous. Glad to see you're getting a good job somewhere else though.

It's me that is upset/ pissed/ aggrevated.. :nunu:

SnTBakosFinest 12-06-2006 10:02 PM

I dunno from what I know is they can't terminate you unless they write you up and notify you about your tardiness/absence. And then you have to sign the paper stating "yea i know they warned and then wrote me up"

Thats how most companies are here anyways... 1st time is a warning.. 2nd is a writeup 3rd is either writeup again or termination and then 4th is termination

And on the write ups they have to notify you, and then you have to sign the paper saying "yes I was notified and we discussed the issue ect"

I'd look around for an employee handbook. Theres all types of shit that is made to prevent this type of stuff.

That is how it is 'Supposed' to work. They are supposed to give you one 'coaching' one 'corrective' and then if they feel it necessary, they can fire you, or give you another 'coaching' all of which would be on paper and No you DO NOT have to sign anything (doesn't matter what co. it is, they do what THEY want period... All of this resets every 6 months.

I had issues when i first started, because I was 17yrs old and felt like I was invincible and could do whatever the **** I wanted because it was my first 'real job' but like I said I was there for 2 years, so they could not go back lawfully and dig that up in order to terminate me.

Bottom line is, if they want to get rid of you.. No Matter what.. You're gone. Period, end of discussion. And that equates to this manager had a personal vendetta against me from the previous store and he got rid of me as soon as he could (had the power to make it happen.)

Im still a lil' burnt up about this, but it will all work out in the end. :flamed:

And as far as that is concerned.. It's called price matching, just take any lower price that CC has to BB and you'll get a BETTER deal.. Im not going to shop at Ccity anymore, not for a long time anyway.. Atleast until I get over this crap.

Ccity is still  to BB anyway. That's how it will always be.

Well, Just got off of the phone w/ the appeal hearing. Oh, and guess what, BIG SURPRISE, the guy holding the hearing tried almost 10 times to get ahold of Ccity/ Ccity appeals reps and.. He couldn't get ahold of ANYONE! Imagine that!? :kekekegay:

So, based on what happened on the phone Im expecting to hear some good news! Basically it was like a court hearing where the defendant decided he wasn't going to show up, so the plaintiff got to spill his guts and the defendant had no words.. lol The guy was reading me the paperwork that Ccity submitted and they left practically everything blank on the appeal form! WTF is wrong with these people? Are they really that dumb? LOL
