And his auction clearly states that the "Premium xbox live bundle contains...yadda yadda " he didnt say that HIS box contained it. besides, who the hell ever reads the system's description when buying one? If youre about to buy it, you already know what its capable of and what it comes with. The only part on the entire auction is where he described the white box, nothing that he typed ever led someone to believe it was real.

and what about when you buy something, try to return it, but then you read the fine print and youre ****ed. Same story.

I gotta say i think it was a pretty lame thing to do. I cant believe the guy was happy all he had to do was pay the auction fees or whatever. You clearly state it is a box. I also love the "It is white so it is cool." part!!!! If you said you were selling an Xbox 360 console or something and just gave them a box than I would definately say not to sell it, but it is clearly written that it is a box and where you say it is white makes it obvious.

Besides, how many times has this trick been done?? I mean I've seen it done by a lot people on the Internet, hell they even featured it on the Jay Leno Show about stupid stuff on Ebay.

What is really scary is that there were like EIGHT people willing to pay more than 100 bucks for the box, not just the winner believed this add!!

Look, if you skim through the add and are bidding on something for 2 bucks that is understandable, but when you are spending 300 bucks and pay no attention to the description, thats their fault.

Besides he could just tell Ebay he originally just wanted to sell the box for a couple of bucks...

There was never an intention to sell the box, the intention was simply to make somebody look like an idiot. That just doesent show much character in my book.

This entire "should have read the fine print" attitude is pretty lame. There are a TON of scammers out there who operate this way, i dont care who you are or what you say, the ad was misleading and was meant to be misleading.

Its really kind of sad that so many people think that this is acceptable and say the buyer should have noticed and it is the buyers fault, what would be nice is if people actually stood up against such obviously intentionally misleading sellers because it would be nice to live in a place where you can trust a seller.

why go out of your way to do something like this? if you were just trying to prove a point then you should have paid the fee yourself. So the buyer diddnt notice, yah, that sucks, but how about eliminating the problem by having honerable sellers?

How is he a crook? The guy DIDNT read what the auction is about. That is the first rule in ebay buying disclamers. READ THE INFO!!! Its the morons own fault he bid 300+ on a cardboard box. Secondly, he didnt take the guys money. He simply pointed out that the guy was a moron and let him realize his mistake. Yeah he made him pay the ebay dues for this mistake but its a lot better than shipping out a cardboard box to someone with another one inside for 300 dollars.

You know you should be reading the auction before you are about to spend 300 bucks on something on ebay.

its moves like this that make ebay a shady place, because people justify the ability to scam others by saying if they were dumb enough to fall for it then it is thier own fault. So basically when you get scammed sometime down the road(trust me it will eventually happen, probably not in a big way but it will happen), then you will take full personaly responsibility for it, decide you deserved it, and hold absolutly zero resentment from the scammer?

There is definatly a level of personal responsibility on the buyers side, its just too bad that you cannot trust anyone on ebay. And it isnt the buyers that create that mistrust towards sellers, it is the dirtbag sellers who do dick moves like this. What if it was an old man wanting to buy his grandson a present and just didnt understand what he was buying just knew he needed an "xbox"?

I never said what he is doing what right. Morally it is wrong to do, absolutely. What I am saying however is that from a business point of view, although it is always important to practice good business ethics, he put an add on Ebay that said he was selling the box and the description said it was a box. Maybe the buyer ASSUMED that he was selling the real console, but that is not the sellers fault. But any person out there who thinks they can get an XBOX 360 from Ebay for that cheap is a moron.

At first I put the ad up as a joke. Seriously thought people would not bid on it. To my amazement I found that not just one person bid on it but actually a lot of people did. Is that my fault.....NOT AT ALL!

One more thing......if I really wanted to be an asshole then I would have made him pay for the box. He couldnt have proven that I commited fraud. I clearly described what I was selling. I didnt scam anybody. To you that maybe what it looks like and that is great that you have a set or morals that you stand strong by. Nobody is perfect. example....people laugh at others downfall. In another thread you thought it was funny that somebody got into an accident by staring at another mustang. Yes it might be funny in some casses but you could say at the same time.....they got screwed because the mustang was driving next to them on purpose. That mustang driver screwed that man over.....is that logical? Not really. You getting mad about what I did just for a laugh not knowing it was gonna sell for that much is totaly crazy. The person who bidded on it was in control not me. And besides I never screwed him over at all. Did he pay what he bidded? NO.
