Default How do I turn the engine over?

My spare 01 bullitt motor has been sitting in my dads shed now for about a year. He said it would be a good idea to turn it over a few times so it doesnt sieze up from moisture. It has SOME oil in it from the previous owner. I also taped up the intake ports and valve covers when I had first bought it so nothing could get in there. The problem is that I dont know what to use to get it to turn over. I tried turning the crank with my hands but Its just too hard to turn and I need to eat more wheaties. Can I just put a socket on the crank bolt and turn it with the ratchet? I tried that and it didnt look like it was working. I need to get this thing to turn over a few times and would like to do a compression check.

Turning with a socket wrench is how I've always done it. Try that again. Also, this keeps your valve spring from from getting "set" in the compression they have been at for a year. So it's a good idea

It would be a lot easier to turn if you pull the spark plugs. That wouldn't do much for a compression check, but it would keep the enging from seizing up.
