Default Faint coolant smell.

Guys. When I'm driving around I get a faint wiff on antifreeze.Expecially when i get on it.Not over heating or even running alittle hot.Check the hoses, can't see a leak.No drops under the car when parked either.Any ideas?

If the smell is strong inside the car could be a leaking heater core. If its from the outside of the car could be, any number of hoses have small cracks or manifold has small leak, gasket rips etc.... this is a tuff one to find the answer over the internet.

You best to hope it's not the heater core as they are a pita to change....

Pray it's not a head gasket!

loss of coolant, puddle under car or maybe a few drips, burning the coolant (white smoke?)

yeppers, the heater core doesnt all just blow ans dump coolant down. My f150 got a big crack and leaked it into the ducts and it smelled like awsome hot coolant till i bypassed the heater core. Good thing florida doesnt get cold often as i never bothered to fix it lol.

Ok I turned heat on full...No smell...Has to be a leaky hose when it's under higher pressure under full throttle. And I'm not sure if I'm getting use to it because I don't smell it every time.

hmm, this problem seems to be a sneaky sob...well you could get another person to give it a lil gas, get the rpms up there and look under the hood to see if ya have any leaks..and since they won't be acustomed to the smell, they might be able to point it out a lil better then you can since you've been around it for a bit now.

Might have to get a pressure tester so you can pressure up the coolant system to find the leak. I have on and they are very handy at finding small PIA leaks.
