Hey guys, Does anyone have any advise on a good cat-back system? I eventually want to do a full set-up but I have to wait until I swap my auto to manual. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I like the deep rumble at low speeds with not too much poppin and crackin at deceleration. I also live in Alpharetta GA were emissions are required. So cats are a must. What is your opinion of Bassani?

 

You cant go wrong with that as long as your pocket can take it.

 

If not Bassani, what are some other options ?

 

You should pick based on taste next if you want stainless steel which is for life. That will help you narrow it down. If you plan only to keep stang for a few years then SS is not important.

Sorry that I dont tell you a make or model. It is bad if you dont hear it before you buy it. If you listen to someones setup you must know what motor,headers if any, xipipe or hpipe,cats or uncatted and what catback they have. Its a tough choice I have changed my setup 3 times and going for a 4th.

 

Sounds like chamber mufflers is what you're looking for. Mac, Hooker, and Flowmaster is what you want to look at for that deep rumble at idle. Just w/ the Flows, you will get drone at 2k rpm.

 

Oh no thats cool. I appreciate all the insight. I just dont want to buy a crappy sounding set-up. There are just so many combinations out there it gets kind of frustrating doing all the shopping. But it is really informative though.

 

so what does your current set up consist of? Is this on a cobra ?

 

magnaflow for the win! Mild sound, but will scream a little at wide open throttle....will perform just as good or better than most cat backs, and won't break the bank!

 

im running magnapacks and i wouldnt buy another car with out them....they have a nice idle node and quiet at highway speeds..but when you mash the gas they really roar!!!!!

 

too loud for my taste, but they do sound good.

There are 3 parts to your exhaust system....headers, mid pipe and cat back. The cat back system has nothing to do with your cats...it's the exhaust part after your cats...hints the term cat back....the mid pipe are where your cats are located. Installing a new cat back would basically consists of changing mufflers and the pipes they are attached to.

As long as you leave your stock mid pipe in you'll be fine.

 

Go with some long tube headers, o/r x-pipe, and flowmasters. Thats my setup and I love it. It's not overbearing loud at idle and mild acceleration, but she screams and growls at WOT. I love it.

 

i have a mac o/r h-pipe and flowmaster 40 series mufflers...its quiet at idle, kinda loud at a mild acceleration but its really loud at wide open throttle, i can't wait to get my headers then it'll be a little louder...the h-pipe was $200 and it was about $60 for each muffler

 

long tube headers, catted H, slp powerflow catback. business on the inside, party on the out side (quiet in the cab, loud and fun on the exterior)

 

I went with a mac pro-chamber mid pipe and the magnaflow cat back. Sounds great but wont pass emissions if u touch the mid-pipe at all. So just keep the stock one and bolt it back up when its time for smog. Its a little bit of work, but the sound and power of the catless prochamber with the cat-back is amazing. Or u can try a mid-pipe with cats, it might pass smog where ur from, but in california nothing doing. gl man.
