Default what to do with gear install?

i have 2 options i could
A) get my gears installed by JDM motorsports 30 minutes away
or
B) get my gears installed by a friend who works at a local gas station shop

option B doesnt sound as good as A but my friend will do it for about 100 bucks and JDM quoted me at least 400
what do you guys think?

I would just go ahead and get them done right the first time. 400 is aliitle much but if thats the only speed shop by you then go ahead and then youll be done with it. I have heard about gears whining not being installed properly

I went to a guy I thought would do it right and at the same time be cheap. I was worng. THinking the gear whine would go away it didnt. Getting them installed is great and all but I would have it done by a person who understands and does this on a regular basis.

Hell anyone could slap in a set of gears but a specialist will know how to dial it in correctly.

If he swapped gears before, then I wouldn't worry and go to him. Otherwise, having your friend learn on your car isn't worth it, even if it's 1/4 of the price of the experts.

My brother let a guy who claimed he knew what he was doing, and the guy charge him a $100. Well a bout 6months later he was paying for a whole new rearend. BAck lash was way off crush sills were destroyed, and when the shop drained the fluid he had more metal savings than fluid. So just bite the bullet and get it done right the first go round. My .02

Man I guess Loan Star Performance really does have great prices. I will think twice before I complain about the price of a install, you guys shops are hella expensive.

Thats about right for the dyno tune. But you hardly have anything done to your car to require one. Just get the tuner and the gears and have the shop install the gears. The mail order tune that comes on the tuner will be just fine. Do the Dyno tune when you have more done to your car.

do you already have gears? i had a local guy i really trust do mine for 175 with all the bearings and a trac-loc rebuild, but i provided all the hardware.

find a cheaper but experience shop to do it then jdm, but not the gas station guy. if he only wants $100 hes not experienced enough...

The another thing is if you really trust that guy. Ask him if he will redo his work untill your happy with it. If the gears a FRPP or Motive then they shouldnt have any noise if installed correctly. Make him gurantee his work.

find a trans shop if want to look somewhere else. I got quoted $250 for everything from a local guy. I asked him if he had done many of these before and he simply said I have a 9.23 second car and a 10.45 second car. that was enough for me.
