Do i need ...... when using springs.....
I was about to purchase Eibach sportline springs, which drop the car 2.0" F and 1.8" R . Guy from tirerack told me that I would need shocks, I was planning on keeping the stock shocks and just getting a caster camber plate kit. Do i really need to get shocks? or can I just keep the stock shocks? Also does anyone know what the widest tire you can fit up front on a 1999 Gt, 275/35/18......? What about out back? 295/35/18? Planning on using 18x9's up front and 18x10's out back.. Thx for the help...

2 inches is a big drop and you will need shocks and struts, and probably tie rods (steeda bumpsteer kit) later down the road, and x2 balljoints as well.
|
Well what's a drop that will look good on a stang , would 2" even look good on a stang?
|
puts it in the dirt

Starts looking like your wheels are tucked.

I would just go 1.5, like myself and MattJ.H&R sports for sure.

Here a pic of a 2" drop when I did it, if you dont do everything listed above you will have a real crappy ride. Didnt like it as far as ride quality so I went with 1.5drop now going a little less.
|
i use to have another car with a 2 inch drop and the ride quality was sh*tty!
I had the eibach sportlines with stock shocks etc... I would say go with 1.5 inch or make sure you get everything to make the corrections from the drop along with shocks and everything else. Ride quality still will not be like stock... |
2 inches is too low in my opinion. Go with 1.5, and you should be ok with the shocks/struts...I was on my BBK Progressive Rates (1.5" drop....they rode and handled very well BTW) for 70,000 miles with the original struts/ shocks. Once I switched to coil overs, I went with fox body spec lakewood 90/10's.
Anything over a 1.5" drop and you'll want fox-body spec dampers. |
Steeda sports drop about 1.25-1.5 in and give a great ride quality while still looking great. If I could have found them, Id have H&R sports on my car, but they were backordered and steedas were the close second choice, so I went with those. Hopefully they'll go on this weekend, so Ill let you know how they ride. Oh, and I have mach one shocks and struts to go with them. Not the best, but a decent upgrade over the stock stuff. We'll see, lol, Ill prolly have bilsteins in a week. LOL

my car is lowered to the point were the shocks are bottomed out.. i run 275/35 18's all around.. and the front wheels turn lock to lock with out a problem, being that low...of course mine is fully adjustable and i can raise it 5 inches up from were it lays on the ground....

Thats a nice setup but really expensive to get the whole system.
