VHT Night Shades, How Many Coats?
I bought a used 3rd brake light that was in pretty good shape for cheap. The guy also included a can of VHT Night Shades spray tint for free, which was great becuase my whole plan was to tint the light. My current 3rd brake light has Autobadges vinyl tint on them. Those of you who have that tint may know that the vinyl doesn't cover the entire light, only the red part and some of the top. My current light is also UV damaged a bit.
So, I watched a video of someone putting some tint on thier lights, 3 coats looks like it blacks the lights out completely, so I only planned on doing 2, however one coat looks pretty darn dark. Is two coats too much, one coat not enough in the end. What works best for a black car? I plan to clear coat them, wet sand, and polish. |
I would say after you do 1, have a flash light shining through the back of it and turn the lights out and stand back from a distance and see how it looks, if still to light, go for another shot of tint!
I wouldnt go to dark, something you want people to see if you putting on your brakes! |
I ended up with about two coats. Pretty dark. I can't put it on the car right now but the light itself looks pretty good.

Interesting. Get some photos up as I was thinking about doing the same thing!
|
I'll be able to put it on the car today, maybe. I haven't seen it in a week and it's probably covered in snow.
|
I used 3 coats and it was a mistake. Came out way too dark. One little can was just enough though.
