CD player/headunit recomendations?
 

Looking at doing a few interior things, and my old unit is kinda lame plus half the lights are out on it. I probably dont even want a touch screen, no real reason for it. Ill never watch videos in a car, so just something simple, looks clean, and is reliable. Color preference would be blue if any, and please not something that looks half rice or cheap. Also i dont really care about a remote, or not, if it comes with one big whoop if not no loss. Also sound quality obviously would be good.

Edit: Also idc if they have a detachable faceplate, if someones gunna break into my car, they are gunna steal more than that. If it has one or not idc.

Bestbuys link didnt work for me, and it looks nice actually. Only question is how much? I love the fact that it displays the music like that though.

Also i really gotta say my limit is 130-140.

I guess, if there is a really good one for the price, i could go up to 180 but thats the limit seriously. Im kinda diggin this one.

Death I'll try to answer a few of your questions. I was completely clueless about a year ago on anything car audio related but I did my research and I've learned plenty. I replaced the single-DIN unit in my '00 last year and I assume you have the same setup. AM/FM radio on top and CD player on bottom; two different single-DIN units. I forget what year your car is.

For my biggest need was the new unit's ability to interface my iPod. That's where I have all of my 2,000-or-so songs. I've always liked Alpine head-units. Word of wisdom: you get what you pay for. Alpine shit isn't cheap for a reason. Go take a look at some of their X-type speakers and subs and then hear them in person. I've never been a big fan of Kenwood or JVC or any of the lesser name brands. Pioneer and Alpine are where it's at for head units in my opinion. Long story short I went with the Alpine CDA-9886. Crutchfield has it discontinued because Alpine replaced it with the CDA-117 recently. I bought it for $300 last summer but I'm glad I did. For me the iPod-interface was killer. For some reason I don't like the look and feel of the IDA models. Expandability was great too; it has three sets of pre-amp outputs. I swapped out my HVAC and instrument cluster lights with pure white LED's and it looked great at night. Bright, but great lol.

I installed my Alpine in the new car the other day. I didn't wire it up, but put the unit in the dash to see how it looked and being so damn picky, I don't like the single-DIN look in a double-DIN slot. It doesn't look right. I'm going to sell mine and if you'd be interested, it's right in your price range. Let me know. I can get pictures or any additional pictures. Anyone that knows me knows that I take care of my shit. It was only in my car for about three months and sat in my room over the winter in the factory packaging.

Im sure alpine makes good shit, the only problem again is their pricing. The only way ill ever change the stock stereo system, would be if a speaker blew, so idc about how many outputs or hookups or whatever it has. If i ever change my stock stereo ill do it right, and add subs, and full system but that wont be for a long time. Also i wanna remove my bottom CD player, because the new unit will be able to play CDs i have no use for the old, ugly, half lit one. Where do i buy a filler gap thing for it? Or something to take up that space.

would you know how to get the tape player working on a 2000 mustang the tape will go in butt it wont even attempt to play it it does not even say TAPE when i place the tape in the tape player could you help me with my problem its pretty big since i use a cassette adapter for my mp3 please and thank u

Just keep in mind, if you're looking for great sound quality, you will be paying a good bit. My Clarion CZ-something unit cost $300. It plays my music (ipod and cd, never touch radio) crystal clear. It has this feature that enhances the quality of mp3s, and it really is amazing. Kyanbi's correct, when it comes to car audio, you really do get exactly what you pay for.
