Gauge Face Inserts wiring
 

Hi I just got the El Glow gauge face inserts and need to wire two wires in order for it to work, im just not sure where to connect them to. The black wire is the ground wire am I supposed to connect it to the gauge case? and the red one where should I connect it, maybe to the light so I can use it as the dimmer or power source and where exactly can I find the light wire inside the gauge space ?

The red wire is the power wire. The wire you choose to connect it to will determine when the gauges will have power and light up. I connected mine to the headlight wire so that whenever I turn the headlights on, the gauge face lights up.

The black wire is the ground and you can connect it to any grounded connection.

I'm lazy and electrical taped the ground wire to the metal behind the gauges and I spliced into the large headlight wire and electrical taped the red wire to it. Mine work fine.

Mine is wired to the dimmer so they work just like factory. I suggest you do the same. Also don't electrical tape the ground to that metal bar unless you want to go back in later on to fix something that you could of taken care of in moment.s

so how to I know which on is the dimmer wire and to which to connect it to?

You my friend, need a wiring diagram.

where would i get that from boss? Also is there a way to turn of the yellow turnsignals when driving with light on, i mean being able to see them when u turn but not permanent on?

get a voltmeter and test it out. That's how I did it.

I did that plus with the wiring diagram in my haynes manual.

I dont have the possibility to connect it directly to the gray wire it is way far back in the dash and i cant cut it to attach the other one. I took out the headlight unit and figured maybe i could directly connect it to the unit, as you will see on the photos any idea if that would work and to which of the pins to connect it,

PLEASE URGENT I HAVE THE WHOLE THING OUT NEED THE CAR SOON

I figured it out
you dont have to cut into any wire or do something very difficult just connect to power wire of the gauge face to the spot marked in the photo (green arrow, not where the wire is) This spot is the dimmer connection this way you can use the dimmer like the old one. Also after you sodered the wire on you can just plug it back together and you are good to go.

Also I discoverd that if you want to install a new gauge face you need to remove the old one because the different clusters dont fit over each other meaning that all the little light of the new one like traction controll service engine etc are going to be off. The original gauge face can not be removed unless you cut it out, so be carfull

I just spliced into the wiring coming out of the headlight switch. A manual would of told you which one was the dimmer and then you would of had to just tap into that one wire. But hey if you got it working then its all good.

my thing was that the wires are so far back in there i couldnt really reach them and get a hold of them, plus when you take this unit out it's really easy to sodder it to the headlightswitch unit, plus the place where i connected it to you can see on the upper photo is the direct dimmer contact, meaning it;s pretty much directly connected to the dimmer also if you only want to connect it to the headlight you can just sodder it to the place where i placed the red wire in the photo above.

i wired my red wire to the blue and red wire which , where would be a good ground source, i tried the light switch bracket and wrapped the black wire around the screw that hols the light switch in place but it didnt work, what did i do wrong, Thanks
