i have this ..http://www.crutchfield.com/S-j7HiKGo...-iDA-X100.html
they have new ones out that are probably similar but better, i have had zero problems with mine and is very easy to get used to and to navigate with the ipod options, i love it |
I have a pioneer and I like it a lot
It's an older unit, I forget the exact model http://i35.tinypic.com/308i1z4.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/2zzoync.jpg |
I'm going to be purchasing an Alpine CDA-9886 very soon. Their iDA line is also extremely nice and is centered around iPod use.
I'd look at brands such as Alpine (my favorite), JVC, Kenwood, or even Pioneer. I've never been a fan of Sony headunits. For the most part, Sony makes a pretty good product, but they are overpriced in my opinion and their headunits stink. Alpine really makes some high quality stuff. For me, I wanted something that I could use my iPod fluently with, a product that was of high quality, and something I could expand upon. Before you start looking at certain products just take a moment and think about what you want. There are so many damn options now. I'm assuming you won't be indulging in to something with an LCD screen because a decent product like that will set you back nearing a grand. What I would suggest is going to Crutchfield and starting in the learning section and then go to Outfit My Car and take a look at the options; they're extremely helpful. And just remember: you get what you pay for, especially with car audio. As far as speakers go, I have been told that with our size speakers, we can definitely get some decent sound by just replacing the stock speakers with, obviously, 2-way/coaxial speakers. Infinity makes damn good speakers just like Alpine is the king of headunits in my opinion. Boston Acoustics, JL Audio, and Polk Audio also make some pretty decent products. I didn't know jack shit before car audio about a month ago, but do your research and you'll find something that fits you perfectly. |
Yeah, my iPod is hidden in my glove box, and you can control it all from the head unit, pretty nice to not have to look at the iPod and scroll through all your songs

I dont like sony myself, they make cheap head units and cheap speakers and amps as well, they are a better brand for tv's and laptops, i would say go with pioneer or alpine on your headunit they both make a good quality radio, ive been an installer at circuit city and best buy for years

Thanks for the replies, im almost 100% sure im going with alpine for my headunit and then later on 2 12' alpines in the trunck

Depends on how much you want to spend. I would not go with the Sony Explode. They are crap. Stick with Alpine, Pioneer, or Kenwood as already mentioned. Depending on your price range, you could have a cool DVD head unit for a really reasonable price.

I got this one in my car and I love it.

All my speakers, Head Unit, and Amp are Xplod. My sub is Pioneer, however, because it was free. They work fine. I didnt want to spend a whole lot of money on all that stuff, so thats what I went with. I wouldnt mind having an Alpine system at all though, Or some Rockford Fosgate speakers..

cant go wrong with Eclipse. I have had the same head unit for 8 years and it has never malfunctioned...ever. Its been in 5 different cars. I have nothing but good things to say about Eclipse.
