Urgent Window Tint Help NEEDED!!!

ok so this morning i got my windows tinted at Supertints. i had heard many great things about the place and figured there would be no problem... so they get it done and it costs me 182.98 (not that big of a deal) anyways im driving home sweating. because i have no air conditioning yet... :( anyways i get home and my father notices the rear window looks like crap. the top you know where the black dots are all textured and stuffs. it had air in it and was starting to peal on one of the corners. so i called Supertints and they said they would fix it (lifetime warranty) and if i brought it back asap they could get it done. anywho, i take it back and this guy takes it and puts like some kind of elmers school glue on the part where it was pealing bc he says something about how it wasn't sticking bc of the black part up there. and it was all white and shitty looking, he said it would dry clear. and now it looks like its old and nasty from inside, like all white. but on the outside it looks decent except for one corner. im taking it back to Supertints tomorrow with my father and he says he will get them to redo it or what ever but i just really need opinions. like my father says that if they cut it off right where the black textured dots start at the top it wouldn't look bad or anything... (i seriously doubt this) anyway i am going back tomorrow at about 2:30 Central time... Please hurry with the suggestions...

how did you guys get past this with yalls window tint? anything i could tell them that would help and i appreciate yall reading this...

please help me! idk what to do!

Yes the top part is hard to get done right because of the matrix. I was told by two shops they would not do the top part of the rear window, and that was not acceptable for me. I found a place and he said he can do it, but he can't guarantee that the top part would dry nicely or not peel because of that. However on my car it dried nicely and no peeling and its been 5 years.

White99V6 05-26-2009 09:49 PM

what did he do? that away i can tell the ppl tomorrow.

Switch 05-26-2009 09:58 PM

I've always heard that the top is hard, but the place I went to did mine no sweat. They guaranteed it and everything.

x04V6x 05-26-2009 09:59 PM

Sorry I can't help, but where in missouri are you?

SeanStang 05-26-2009 10:09 PM

Mine stayed on the dot matrix for about a year then started peeling. Now I have big flapping piece of tint on my rear window. It's under warranty, I just need to get off my ass and go down there one day to get it fixed. I'm gunna have them cut the tint off the dot matrix and apply a vinyl instead.

White99V6 05-26-2009 10:49 PM

southeast, bootheel. why?

x04V6x 05-26-2009 11:07 PM

Just wondering, don't see much people from MO on here so I figured I would ask.

BikerSk8rKid 05-26-2009 11:29 PM

My car came with Tint, really loving it besides of course there is scratches and shit, but it's not that bad and I love it. The back window did get cut at the dot or whatever it's called point. I just looked at a picture that I can get close to the back window to take a look at it. I honestly don't think it looks that bad to me. I'm guessing it's only because of a sticker being there to catch ya off guard or I just don't care that much since I didn't pay for it.

I just wish I knew the percentage. Call around for more shops and ask there opinion on how to do it, that's the only thing I can think of and would do.

White99V6 05-26-2009 11:42 PM

well i was reading some other forums and they said that if you have the tint shop cut it off at the beginning of the dot matrix then have them put black vinyl on the dot matrix. does anyone know how this might look?

White99V6 05-27-2009 02:56 PM

ok, so just got back and the guy said that the assistant wasn't supposed to glue it yesterday whenever i went the second time because it was peeling, something about it still being wet. anyway, he said if it still looked crummy in a couple of days that he would re-glue it. and then i brought up the whole vinyl thing over the dot matrix, and he said that it looks great on the outside but on the inside you have a black strip there and you can't see out of it when looking in the rearview mirror. i was on my way home today and i could barely see any of the dot matrix so i don't thing that will be that big of a deal.

as for the sides, they said there is nothing i can do. but i'm gonna try something i read about online. im gonna take a hairdryer and head the outside of the glass and take a credit card and smooth it out... should work... just hope it doesn't ruin it. :D

I had that same prob a few years ago when I my windows tinted. I went too dark and got hammered by the local cops. But anyway. When the guy done mine. . . . Exact same thing. Peeling at the top. I took it back and watched the guy. He said its normal with the "fritz" is what he called it. He told me it WILL stick to it its just a bitch to make it. Well like I said I watched what the guy done and he told me I could do the same thing. He took a flat edge tool and just pushed it back down across the top. It stayed for a day or 3 then when it started peeling at the top again I got back there with a CD case and raked it and flatened it all back out just working from like 8 inches from the top and pushing upwards. I think I had to do that twice and it eventuall stuck with no problems after that. Well not untill the cop had a problem with it anyway. LOL

Any good tint shop should have no problems with this. I'm surprised to hear all the issues everyone is having with this. All they need to do is put a black strip (vinyl) over the matrix stuff instead of tint. It's definitely not in your field of vision as I've had this for close to 3 years. It's good to hear that you received a lifetime warranty...keep taking it back until you're happy with it. I've had 2 cars done personally at Quality in St. Louis and also have had many friends done there as well.

krenogin 05-27-2009 08:03 PM

the white looking stuff is the soap on it, im guessing,, you can clean that later, i liked the way everything was when it was first done,, left a nasty but good smell.. haha i wanna retint my shit.

Can you post some pics of the how the vinyl looks on the dot matrix? Thinking of getting this done soon. I have 5% back there so I'm sure it'll blend quite nicely. Im hoping the vinyl will hide that patchy look that the tint has on the dot matrix too.

I should be able to get some pictures tomorrow night. I've got 20% back there and it looks fine. On the inside you can see where the vinyl is but it doesn't look bad by any means. The vinyl definitely doesn't have a patchy look either.

redfire04 05-30-2009 09:36 AM

Here are pics of mine...it just rained here so window is dirty.

If you look closely in the rear-view mirror You can barely see the vinyl strip and the inside roof. Does not block vision in any way in fact it's only sticking down about 1-2 inches.

ok so thanks for all the help. i'm trying to decide whether or not to go tomorrow or tuesday. bc the glue they used on it is nasty and hazy and its not going away anytime soon if ever. so i will be going with the vinyl.

just one other quick question. do you think they will take the old tint off and re-do it? bc idk what they will do... :?

SeanStang 05-31-2009 11:45 PM

Thanks redfire!! Exactly what I was looking for! Looks solid without any patchy spots.

I'm sure they will just redo the whole rear window.

Black Sunshine 06-01-2009 06:53 AM

My tint shop had no problem with my dot matrix. No strips to cover it, either. I don't have patchy spots or anything. It is sticking just fine.

Slim03GT 06-01-2009 09:22 AM

I had the black vinyl done. They tinted the back window up to the dots. I had to go back 2 weeks later and get the strip of black vinyl put on. Looks like its all one piece.

sand1303 06-01-2009 04:10 PM

I think if you go dark enough the black vynal looks the best. If it's not dark dark then it can look funny with the two different tones. Mine was done almost a year ago all tint and no problems with the dot matrix peeling so far.

PColav6 06-01-2009 04:34 PM

The place I went to used the glue stuff on the dot matrix, dried clear and looks perfect. Booyah.

no problem...

I think the biggest thing to look for in a reputable shop is if they offer a lifetime warranty. That way if you aren't satisfied no matter how they do it vinyl strip or glue and tint you can always have them fix it.

White99V6 06-01-2009 11:40 PM

lucky i have a lifetime warrenty. yeah, im going tomorrow(today) to get the vinyl put on... i'll post pics of b4 and after once i get it done!

White99V6 06-04-2009 10:41 PM

omg. so vinyl has been put on and it still has air and stuff under it. i am seriously ticked... going to post pics when i can remember tomorrow. i hate this place. and they scratched my rear window pretty good too.

im wanting to go somewhere else very badly. just don't know where.
