OMFG shifter hell.....

So as many of you know, i had retard shifter issues, and am now just getting to fix it. I took it to the dealer to have them put the stock shifter back on, and now the O/D button is FUBAR(omfg shoot me please) He said now the bracket and wires and etc for the button are too short and now they gotta order a whole new bracket for 46$!!!+40 to fix the shifter..So what do you guys think i should do? Buy a new shifter that might come with a O/D bracket or what?Im so friggin sick of this shifter!

extend the wires and fix it yourself...your dad is a mechanic as you said right?

Deathdiesel 04-13-2009 03:19 PM

Yea, but once again hes in iraq, and how can i extend them with such a confined space, but connectors cant work on this one.

there is a way... might take removing most of the trim around the shifter to get room to work on the wires...

Yea, ill let you guys know how its comin, they fixed the shifter and told me what was wrong, and now ill be workin on it tommorow.

yeah really if you go buy another shifter or put a standard back in it...you have then taken two steps foward, and 10 steps backward lol

so wait....i dun get it....

When you say it has an O/D button, I assume you mean an automatic shifter then, yes?

All he's talking is the automatic shifter handle.

This is not rocket science, I would have thought this would have been a resolved issue by now...I do feel for you for not having your Dad around for guidance though so I will try to offer some here.

Just go to Radio Shack and buy some 2 gauge wire, and a on/off push button so you can turn it on and off and then soder the wires in togethor and you should be good. ( You may want to test just twist the wires togethor and test it out first, and then once you have it working to turn the O/D light on and off on your dash cluster, then soder them )

You may want to do a search in google for relocating the O/D button and I am sure there are some detailed directions floating around for this too.

I'd suggest trying to find this shifter on a non-wholesale site. It'd fit perfectly and is better than the OEM one in my opinion...

You could try here, but I never bought from them.

that looks like something that should be flying buck rogers through space!

Deathdiesel 04-14-2009 05:11 PM

Lol yeah im probaably just gunna say screw it and stick to stock forever unless someone convices me otherwise.(for the shifter atleast)

OMFG i finally figured out what all my trouble was caused by! This dam little piece must have JUST barely slipped off. I found it behind my seat when i was cleaning the interior, i even looked there but the dam thing was under my floor mats! I know for sure this is it. HATE it...something so simple could screw me over SOOO bad...alls the dam thing does is slip over the white little nub i was talkin about and create a small spacer. Which explains why the nub wouldnt go down into park and 1st, because on 1st and park the nub has to go down further than the other gears. GOD...dam thing cost me 180$ total... http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...l/100_0243.jpg http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...l/100_0245.jpg
