Did you take it a shop, and not a ford dealership?

Deathdiesel 03-24-2009 04:28 PM

No i havent, why?

Well that proves that the other shifter wasn't faulty... How hard can it be? Never seen one taken apart but I can't imagine it being complicated at all. Maybe someone who has replaced theirs can chime in.

Because a shop is more likely to do the job right. A dealership expects people to come, so their quality drops big time and they do whatever they can do to empty your wallet.

Yeah.. I think we all figured as much. I mean for gods sake.. I R&R'd the radiator from my Audi without any sort of repair manual or directions. How hard can it be to swap shift knobs in a Mustang?

Yeah, but regardless, doesn't take a mechanic to install it. Lol.

Fosho.

That sucks bro take it to a shop and get that crap fixed soon!

Deathdiesel 03-24-2009 08:37 PM

At this point i just dont get it, i mean its the stock frigin handle! I didnt do anything to it besides take out the spring and the O/D button. And ive replaced both of them and it still will only shift into Reverse -2nd gears, and thats if i pull off the shifter push button in all the way then set it down on the shift knob and have it set in 1st gear when i do that. If i try to do anything with it in park then it does about as much as tits on a boar hog.

audikillsbmw 03-24-2009 08:45 PM

Was it supposed to be in a certain position when you removed/reinstalled it? I know on my Audi it had to be in D3 in order to remove the shifter, and I think the same went for when you went to put it back on (not that you should move it when the shifter is off anyways.)

Deathdiesel 03-24-2009 08:46 PM

Lol i had to drive it to dealer and back without the dam knob idk maybe ill try different gears.

audikillsbmw 03-24-2009 08:47 PM

It's worth a shot.

If not im gunna probably having my car crying itself to sleep in my garage waiting for my dad to get home in 2 months.

Oh and when you have a friend volunteer to help you and you hear a snap and alot of silence...... never a good sign

Deathdiesel 03-25-2009 06:53 PM

Yea im having a friend come over to see it, though he knows only about his ford focus..Anyways i still am up for it if anyone in TX wants to come have a look see.

Hey Deathdiesel, I have a similar shifter in my car. I got it from MGW LTD. My install is probably identical to what you have been having troubles with, and I did not have too much trouble. They had great directions! If you are having trouble with directions, ask them. maybe they can help.

If you are completely unsatisfied, consider buying one of their shifters. They come in what i believe is a much nicer finish, and you can get an engraved design that they offer.

That is my two cents. Hopefully i have helped you a little bit.

Deathdiesel 03-25-2009 07:12 PM

Mind giving a link where you bought it? Because i know for certain i will go back eventually and re-do it because my O/D button is now unwired...im considering having a shop wire it through the dash and put it in the cup holder :)

I know ive had this goin on forever but has anyone had any problems like this because im still dumbstruck as to why the stock one wont work.
EDIT: Also i just took a look at it again, and now i can shift through Reverse through 2nd, but not into 1st or park.
