Clay bar, wax.
 

I use the synthetic wax thats really easy to apply in sulight etc. BUT my main question is. What comes first.. its like a toothpaste mouthwash question.. Should i clay bar first then wax? or should i wax then clay bar? Help me! Im bout to clean my car really good when i get a pretty week to do so.

claybar then wax im pretty sure. because the claybar is used to pick up dirt and if you seal the dirt to the car with wax then whats the point

Okay, i see now.. SO wash clay wash again? why? then wax. I figure by doing that inbetween claybaring u will make the surface rough again..

well i went a day inbetween the clay and wax so i had to wash before i waxxed... but just wash anyway, if u use good soap it shoudlnt get rough

Wash the car, clay bar, wash again, wax. You wash it again after you clay it to get all the remnants off the car. You know how you pick up a piece of clay and it leaves residue on your hands and it leaves kind of a haze after you put your hands underwater? Well, the haze from the clay will stay on your paint if you don't wash the car again.

You won't make the surface rough again. Clay bars pull contaminants out of the paint that regular washing cannot.

I wash the car, then while I still have soap, I use the soapy water as a lube and clay the whole car. Then rinse the car off. If you are not going to use a polish then use whatever wax or sealant you like. Go get yourself some microfiber towels for waxing etc.. so you don't scratch the paint while you wax. You can get decent ones cheap at walmart,target and other places like that.

How much clay do you need to do a whole car? I know you can buy a whole kit and I was just wondering if that is all you need. Also when do you switch pieces of clay I have never done it to my car before so I assume that it will tune black pretty quickly

The kits come with a bar of clay, some detail spray, and a bottle of wax (the over the counter kits like meguires and mothers). You use the whole bar on the car, though some people cut them into 2 or 3 separate pieces and keep them in a different bag so incase you drop the clay its not ruined. Cause once you drop it on the ground toss it out as its now bad.

As you use the clay on the car you stop and knee it into a ball and then reflatten it out and continue using the clay. A single bar of clay should be good for around 5-6 cars unless they are very bad you might only get 1-3 cars out of a bar.

Ben, all you really need is a piece of clay, some soapy water, and water to rinse it with. I usually wash the roof, clay the roof, rewash the roof. I do each section of my car like that.

I cut my clay bar in half the first time I used it. Dropped the one I was using in the dirt. Thank god I had that other piece!

Also, if you buy a kit, there is really no need to use the detail spray as lubricant. Just use clean, soapy water, and save the detail spray for what it is meant for.

Oka,, Im gonna try the liquid clay bar stuff where i use the ICE wax.. The ice wax is really quick for me and does just as good (if not better) than caranuba wax. SO i figure it would be bad to mix n match so should i go ahead and get the ice liquid clay bar? OR just get a claybar?

Don't waste money on the liquid claybar. I have tried it on my other Mustang and it sucked. You can mix and match it you'd like, but if you want the best results, I'd suggest spending a little extra money on a real claybar and not that liquid shit.

Like she said that stuff sucks. Look at it this way, the way the clay works is that it slides across the paint and pulls the containment's out by the clay getting pushed over the paint.

Answer it can't do it at all. I got a bottle of it for xmas and it was terrible, I tossed it in the trash after one try.

i use Mcquires.. 2 bars of clay, enough of the quick detailer (the lubricant u use) and its got a sample of their wax... i use good old turtle wax but w/e...

its 18 bucks.. and so much better then liquid!

okk,, so get claybar (ACTUAL CLAY) then get quick detail, spray it down, rub the clay bar over it,, buff out? then wash,, then wax.

Well those clay kits you get in stores like I said come with clay,detail spray, and a little bottle of wax. You dont have to use the spray you can use soapy water (aka car soap) to use as a lubricant.

Man I need to clay my shit. Hasn't been done on my car for at least 3 years.

I clayed my car the day before the meet, that's why the paint looked so damn awesome. I try to clay it at least every 6 months.

krenogin, wash your car, clay it using clean soap and water, wash it again, and then wax it. Then you'll be good to go!
