Spoiler Removal

I want to remove the spoiler on my 2001 GT. It is just a personal preference. I think the car looks way better without it. I am guessing I will need to go to a body shop and pay a guy to remove it (However I could probably do that part myself) and get him to fill in the holes and paint over them.

Can anyone tell me about this process, since I really don't know much about it?
Do they paint over the holes or do they need to like re-paint your whole trunk.

Also how much does this cost generally?

I'm sure you can take the spoiler off urself bud. As for deleting the holes, they can either blend it or repaint the trunk lid. Depends on how much you want to spend. Either way, it won't be too cheap.

You can remove the spoiler yourself. Don't pay someone to do it. Get a hair dryer, Goo Gone and Alcohol, clear silicone, 4 plugs (rubber or plastic will work), and maybe a plastic spatula or something that will help release the glue but won't scratch the paint.

Undo the bolts underneath the trunk lid. Heat the glue and try to push some of it back with the spatula. When you can feel it give, gently lift up on the spoiler. It will take some work to remove the remaining glue. That is the hardest part of the whole thing.

If you want to have the holes filled in, take it to a body shop. If you don't, you can plug the holes with plastic or rubber plugs. Just go to AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts and they should have them. Use clear RV silicone underneath the trunk lid to secure the plugs to the lid and to keep them waterproof.

That is how I took my spoiler off. I may get the holes filled one day, but for now the plugs are great.

Thanks for all the info, good to here from someone with experience. I think I would get the holes filled in because I just think it might look weird if it was just plugged, but maybe I don't know yet, I do want to get stripes over it later so it might need to get filled in.

I notice your also a Zombie fan, nice pic! Are you looking forward to "Tyrannosaurus Rex"

Black Sunshine 11-21-2008 11:51 AM

Well, my car is black with black plugs, so it doesn't look bad. If you want to do stripes later, I'd just go ahead and have the holes filled. However, you can take the spoiler off yourself, plug the holes, and then take it up there to have it filled. It would probably cost less on the labor side.

And yes, I am looking forward to that. I love Rob Zombie, he's a damn genius. :)

Haha I just noticed you had the lyrics to Black Sunshine there. Zombie should come out with another good cd, last one was only alright.

Spoiler Removal Part II

How much does it cost to fill in the holes on your trunk after you remove your spoiler?

03gtmustang 11-21-2008 03:49 PM

You dont need a new thread for this...

NewEdge01 11-22-2008 12:58 PM

...but its Part II...would you go to a sequel in the theaters and then say to someone after the film. "They didn't need a sequel for this, it is similar to the original so they should have just extended the original film by another 2 hr's and I wouldn't have had to come see this"

No of course not! So why did you mess with my postSuper Moderator 03gtmustang

I mean this has never happened to me on any other forum on the internet before. Who runs this forum, Hitler! This makes me seriously consider not using this forum anymore. I should be able to post what I want, how I want and when I want, as long as I am not offending anyone if I took the time to sign up for this forum over the countless others that exist. I obviously made a new post for a reason! Thanks a lot 03gtmustang, your doing a great job and are a superb addition to the mustangboards.com moderators!

Hey man, I have a buddy that has a 2002 gt. He took the rear spoiler off himself. He baught these little black caps at a local hardwarse store to fill in the holes from the screws. It loos badass. I think it's a great idea. Heres the link to a pic of his car http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...ageID=24945205

IMO, check craigslist. It may be cheaper just to find a wrecked stang or trunk. Ive seen plenty off opportunities to buy anything for a stang. If you can find one w/o a spoiler, you may just need to paint it. If you can sand and primer it, all your paying for is paint and clearcoat and it will look super nice. As for the spoiler, mine comes off in 2 bolts. Get yourself a cheap set off deep sockets and go to town friend!

You had two threads on the same thing any other board would do the same thing. Its not a big deal man this way all the info is in the same place should someone go and do a search and see this thread they can find all the info here instead of then looking for another thread. I think you need to chill out.
