If you have the non-Mach HU, you can grab a PAC Trunk Loc, which attaches to your rear speakers. That'll give you the RCA jacks/remote signal. Works like a charm, and much cheaper than a new head unit.

Head units makes the sub and speakers sound better, its reccomended you get one when you get a sub but its not needed. It should sound just fine without it, some of my friends didn't get head units when they got a sub but most of them did.

I learned this from talking to a car audio specialist at a audio place by my house. And my friend sells subs.

alright i have worked at best buy, circuit city, and now sound center all installing car electronics, and both of these replys are correct you can get a line output converter box to make rca spots but it will not be as clean of sound as having an aftermarket radio because the preouts will have more voltage on an aftermarket radio but its your choice, good choice by the way with the alpine type R
