REmoved rear spoiler
I removed my rear spoiler the other day and now have the nasty holes on my trunk. I had it quoted at a thousand bucks to have them filled which is ridiculous. So is there sombody that sells plugs for temporarily filling the holes? And btw i think it looks 10x better without the wing looks like a bullitt

if thats your car in your sig, i wouldnt have changed a thing, i think its sexy as is.. but.. all u have to do is get the trunk lid painted and they want a grand? hahah ide shove a paintbrush up their ass.

They are probably repainting the whole thing, and blending and all that crap. Go to a different shop. $1,000 is ridiculous.

I did the same thing, and I just put some of the push screws in the hols that Ford uses for your radiator cover. I sealed it, since I know that I wouldn't pull them off till I got her touched up. I can't imagine that you'll be quoted any less than $300. That would be the absolute cheapest...

$1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it paint laced with cocain? I had mine filled, 3rd brake light filled, and key hole filled for $300 |
A $1,000 quote doesn't surprise me at all. Not after I had even more quoted to do the same thing. Back in March, I posted this;
Well, I just stopped by a body shop I've dealt with several times in the past, to inquire about the cost to have them remove my spoiler, fill the holes, and repaint the trunk. The job description; Remove spoiler (of course) Fill holes (of course) Paint trunk (of course) Remove bumper Remove both taillights Remove both rear quarter windows Paint/Blend trunk into both rear quarter panels Reassemble everything (of course) Grand Total; 10.6 Body Labor Hours 8.1 Paint Labor Hours $1,244.26! Told them thanks for their time and the info, and that I should just get on the parkway, stop short, and let someone rear-end me, and let insc cover it. $1,244.26? Good Lord! So yeah, a quote of a grand seems cheap to me.... |
Shop around. I had a couple small dings pulled (paintless dent repair), couple of stone chips repaired on hood, holes filled in trunk, and bumpers/hood/trunk re-shot and blended for $1000.
Before I sent it to the shop I had used some airplane tape from the bottom of the holes (to provide a little support) and some of the bondo glaze (in the tube) for scratches and finish repair. I filled it, lightly sanded, filled again, sanded, filled again... until it was pretty close. Then I used some touch up paint (brushable) and clearcoat (brushable) then gave it a light buffing. it was better than nothing until I saved up the cash for the trip to the autobody shop. Make sure the didy shop provides some sort of support for the filler they use in the holes, it can droop over time and you'll see the holes if not done correctly. Wingless FTMFW |
