Stripes..

Im really considering 2 black bumper to bumper 8 or 10 inch stripes strait down the middle..also..it may sound rice, but im throwin this out what would u guys think of an offset single stripe on the left? BUT what this is really for...what do you guys think about racing stripes? What size do you think they should be? and how easy is the "install"

That's the reason why I like them...I think it adds a little and looks better...IMO, either way will look pretty good.

Don't do the offset line. Like you said, looks ricey. I do like the thinner pinstripes on James's car however.

As far as install, you'll need to make sure the wax is stripped, car is clayed, rubbed down with denatured alcohol, and you take your time. You don't want bubbles in them, or they will stand out like a sore thumb.

Offset stripe = rice

I like the outer pins on those stripes.

i think your car looks better without them. it looks more clean especially without the spoiler. lower the car (im not sure if you have already or not) and leave the stripes off. maybe get some more black accents somewhere else on the car. but if you really want the stripes then definitely get some like in the pics above with the little pinstriping next to it.

dom 07-08-2005 11:55 AM

spring, get them, 10 inch, no pinstripe on the edges, and go over the bumpers too, dont leave the bumpers un-striped.

Stripes kick ass.

They are so freakin easy to do its rediculous, if you wanna do some and want some help, cruise on up to littleton and bring the stripes and ill supply the beer and we can hammer it out in no time.

get em from www.Rallystripes.com

honestly, if you do em down the middle, going with anything over 8 inches will be a real pain in the ass with that hoodscoop.

i ran with 8, definatly wouldnt go smaller than that

actually, if you use water/soap/achohol and spray the sticky side of the stripe and the car, you can sit there and slide em into place and get all the ubbles worked out... took me about 4 hours to remove the stock stripes and put these new ones one.

The site that slappy put up is where I got mine. The secret to forming them around curved surfaces is using a blow dryer or in my case a heat gun. You want to make it warm so it can stretch out a bit. If you apply too much heat it may mess it up so be careful. Another thing to do is when you have cut the strip that you will be applying dont get the rest of the roll wet on the paper side . Wet the entire suface of car where the stripe is going with mix solution, start peeling off and applying solution to vinly as quickly as you can and apply to car. Since both vinly and car are wet ,you can align now since stripe with glide on top of it . If the paper backing gets stuck to vinly due to the backing getting wet for too long, its not a problem but you will have to apply alot of solution and rub it off lightly from the adhesive part of the vinly or else you will see bumps.

Heh, never thought of that. The only place i had any trouble was on the front bumper right below the grill delete, cause of those edges that turn up. I just basically stretched it over the form to get it to fit. Good thing they give you plenty of stripe too, there were a couple places i had to re-do. i still have about 30 feet of pinstripe left over and about 2 feet of the 8inch striping left.

Im totally stoked about those stripes. I think i paid $32 including S&H, and another 5 bucks for dishsoap, achohol, and the spray bottle. Then you see other sites that have "stripe kits" for $200+ that have JUST enough to do the car, better not screw up. <laugh> So far ive had no problem with them, they look great, no peeling.

its amazing what you can do for under 40 bucks and several hours.

gotta make sure you let them sit overnight before you take it out driving though. <laugh> dont want em flapping in the wind.

Badfish 07-08-2005 04:15 PM

thanks everyone for the input...I ordered em from rally stripes,8 inch, with the pin striping, dunno if I want the pin striping yet, but it was only a couple bucks, so i can think about it...shipped yesterday ... :glasses10

Everyone that sees my stang thinks its a new car. Blowdryer is your friend. Best $32 I have spent on the exterior.

K so go over the blowdrier thing again?

dom 07-08-2005 06:15 PM

seriously. blow dryer? what does that do? besides remove emblems :)

all this custom talk makes me wanna paint the top of my car black and find some fancy wheels. might go back to skinnies on the street

Jack The Ripper 07-08-2005 06:16 PM

I used a blowdryer to pull off the old stripes. diddnt use it on the new one though. the only place yer gonna have any trouble is on the front rught under the grill...use the blowdryer to heat up the vinyl a little so it stretches easier

You only need to heat the vinly if you are having issues on the contours of the scoop or bumpers. Try to do the entire stang from bumper to bumper but If you mess up you might not have enought as I used all of it since I did it from bumper to bumper leaving only a few inches of excess stripe to trim.
