looking for a polishing tool
im looking for an orbital polisher but i don't want to drop the money on a porter cable 7424.
from what i see, the porter cable has an RPM range of 2500-6000. a lot of the lower priced models that ive seen have a much higher range. what should i be looking for and what will be the difference in a tool that has a higher rpm range in comparison to one with a lower range? also, if you have any lower priced alternatives to the 7424 that you like, do share! thanks. |
What are you going to be using this tool for? Applying waxes and sealants, or doing paint correction?
|
pretty much just doing polish/wax. im not really too worried about doing paint correction. i know my car isn't going to be show quality nor do i need it to be.
|
well polish is paint correction. Waxing, sealant, is different and dont require heat nor do they need to be broken down. If you tell me what kind of products you're going to be using with it then Ill be able to help you out better.

i generally use poorboy's wax. ive only used polish once and it was just some turtle wax stuff that we had in the garage.
|
Ahh, good old turtle wax. You can go to Advance Auto and buy one of those cheap machines for applying things like waxes, sealants, glazes, and PB polish w/ Carnauba. None of those things have abrasives in them so they dont need heat or speed to break down. Just make sure you use the proper bonnets.

Doobie.. do yourself a favor and get the porter cable! It's worth it, and I guarantee you'll love it! Get the velcro backing plate and a selection of pads ( cutting, polishing and finishing) and you can do paint correction and protection easily.

He doesnt want to spend the money on a new PC, so maybe try to find a used one.
|
i may eventually do it, i bought some stuff to repair the chips in the door (like in the walkthrough you posted)
|
You wont be able to remove sanding scratches with anything less then a PC. Even a PC will have a hard time on many paints. I probably wouldnt wet sand unless you know how to use a rotary.
