Bass in a mustang?

2 Attachment(s)
I just bought myself a 2002 3.8L V-6 Mustang...

But, now to my point, I like a little extra bass, but not too much. So I'd only want to toss in one 10" maybe 12" sub. But I know pretty much nil when it comes to stereo sound, so what should I be looking to spend? What products would be good sound? I don't want top of the line, nor do I want bottom of the bucket either. Any recommendations on what I should be spending or brands would be excellent.

And the main question is where would it sound best? Could I custom fit a box to fit behind the passenger seat or should I be mounting it in the truck to the backseats??

You sound sorta like I did when I was thinking about a little extra sound...

I have one Rockford Fosgate 10'' Punch in a box (in the trunk) with a 350W Sony amp. It cost me less than 250 bucks and adds plenty of bass, enough to distort your mirrors. What head unit are you using?

and if you dont like your rims lemme know, I have a nice set of 16'' pony wheels I need to part with.

That is one other thing. The 6 year old Mustang with 63k miles on it still has a stock stereo, one more thing I will have to change.

I will just say this. I am 21 years old, and have not started college yet. I am starting in two months, but I would have never thought I would own a Mustang as my second car I ever bought myself. First car was a 1999 Saturn SL1 and I just had to get rid of that. When I started looking for cars I thought Id have to get a small sedan type like last time. I just happened to stumble upon an 02 Mustang within my price range. It is fully stock so eventually I will be slowly but surely upgrading certain things about it. A stereo a small bass system first. Then follow that with possibly a cool air intake system, then maybe exhaust and headers. After that... no idea, but of course I have had this car 6 days, so all of this is cash flow pending but I should have no problem saving up.

I have the indestructible Eclipse 5431R. its about 7 years old, in its 5th vehicle of mine, and not one single malfunction to date!

they stopped making that model, but if the one I have ever fails I will be buying another Eclipse.

well if you wanna go fast, that cold air and exhaust arent gonna do much for you for the $$. spray it and get some 4.10's. thats cheap speed.

You sound pretty much exactly how I am, little bass is good. Less on the visual side, all on the performance side. My car history is saddening to me. I know very little about cars and what makes them go. My Dad was not much on the automotive side of things, although his brother owns a body shop, my Dad is pretty lazy and never taught me shit. I asked him when I turned 12 on up to build a car with me and he wouldn't. So I got to high school and took an auto class hoping to learn a little. And all year long the teacher took role, and went into his office and never came out. So I still never learned anything. Thanks for the advice on what to make me pick up some HP, that's all I am aiming for. A little on the visual and audio side, alot more on the speed side.

As far as placement of the speaker(s) I would build a custom box to fit in the recess area right infront of the right tail light and mount the amp on the oppisite side right infront of the tail light. This way the trunk is still usable and very accesable through the back seat too.
Just my opinion is all.
*edit*
If ya decide to go that route when installing the stuff in those spots remember that ya gotta have access to the tail light too for when your bulbs go. So plan that into your build.

Would I have any problem with trunk rattle? One of the reasons i would only toss 1 10" or 12" in there is because I have riden in plenty of smaller cars (Hondas, Acuras, etc) with 2 twelves toss in their truck and all it does it rattle the car. You hear shaking as much as you do bass. Any suggestion on a deck, amp, sub combo?
