I'm Sorry..HOW Much To Do That?!?

Well, I just stopped by a body shop I've dealt with several times in the past, to inquire about the cost to have them remove my spoiler, fill the holes, and repaint the trunk.

The job description;

Remove spoiler (of course)
Fill holes (of course)
Paint trunk (of course)
Remove bumper
Remove both taillights
Remove both rear quarter windows
Paint/Blend trunk into both rear quarter panels
Reassemble everything (of course)

Grand Total;

10.6 Body Labor Hours
8.1 Paint Labor Hours

$1,244.26! :eek:

Told them thanks for their time and the info, and that I should just get on the parkway, stop short, and let someone rear-end me, and let insc cover it.

$1,244.26? Good Lord!

WOW...... yah that is a bit extreme...

thats where they get you is the damn blending... take your trunk off and ask them to fill the holes and paint it. should cost no more than 200-300 dollars.

my hood and bumper prep, paint, blend costed me 1300 i cried myself to sleep after that one. 10 months later my mom wrecked the car and a new hood, bumper and left fender were replaced. i cried myself to sleep again that day.

they dont have to remove all that stuff...just mask it off and shoot the paint. those ppl are trying to rip you off.

You can get the job done cheap.... you can get the job done right.... rarely does "cheap" and "right" go together...

As for the advice others here have given you so far... keep in mind that it's not "their car" :rolleyes:

i own a bodyshop in jerzy, you can def tape off everything, but as far as not blending , taking the lid off and brining it in? your going to get a different shade, no question. like dagonz said , cheap and right dont go together

Do what i did- take it off yourself and use cheep pluggs from advanced auto.
lol. That seems very expensive... what color is the car?

That was my original pan actually. But when I took out the four screws holding it to the trunk, it was then that I realized that what I thought was just a "buffer" between the spoiler and the trunk lid was actually doublesided autobody tape like that used on emblems. I had\have no idea about how to safely remove both the spoiler and that tape, which is why I had gone to the body shop.

How did you get yours off?

By the way, the color is Torch Red.

It costs what it costs, but I certainly would not pay $1300 to remove a spoiler.

they have paint cleaner to remove that crap tape just go to the parts store tell them ehat you need and get it.

when i removed my spoiler... that tape trashed the paint finish. Must have been some moisture buildin under there.

I had to get my front bumper re-painted once after an accident. I took it off and sanded most of it down myself. Brought JUST the bumper into the body shop and had them prime, paint, clear.

Matched 100% perfectly.

Color was Oxford White.
