Using resistors to change speaker impedance?

I unknowingly replaced the stock Mach 460 door speakers with some Alpines that are the wrong impedance (4 ohm instead of 6) and fried my stock amp for the door speakers. So after I replace the amp, can I just add a 2 ohm resistor in series with each speaker's positive terminal to increase the resistance to 6 ohm and thus keep my Alpines, or will that not work?

I'd really rather not go back to the stock speakers...

yes you can.

damn my electronics are a bit sketchy, but you can just add a 2ohm resistor in the path. make sure it is in series.

Thanks man!
