smudges and swirl marks

i have some smudges and swirl marks on my hood and various other places on my car. i was just wondering the best way to get those out. is there a certain product any of you have used that worked really well?

MattJ 10-12-2006 05:29 PM

You are probably going to have to buff it out or if you dont know how, have someone do it for you. I dont know how bad they are...

SlicK 10-12-2006 07:41 PM

Mother's wax. That stuff is the shit. Just make sure you apply enough and when you buff it out that you don't leave any excess. I also would recommend using a microfiber towel for buffing it out. I know a bunch of people just use regular towels and that'll just put little swirls back on your car.

I have ablack car. My paint aint perfect, but it pops.....I mean, I have a deep, dark, shine. It was not always like that.

I use Sonus Paint Cleaner once a year and follow with a polish and a sealant and finally the top coat.

Do this:

1 - Wash the car.

2 - Get either Maguires Three Step or Mother's Three Step.

3 - Take a small section of the car only that is causing you the trouble, and use the three step process.

4 - If that works, then do the whole car.

PC with the right kind of pad using Poorboys SSR1.5 or 2. OR use Pinnacle Swirl remover 1, 2, or 3. NEVER touch the paint with anything besides microfiber. And no, not all are created equal.

thanks for all the help guys. i never use anything but microfiber. a store near where i live was sellin 8 microfiber towels for like $2 when they were going out of business so i bought like 64 towels. everytime i wax my hood it always ends up with swirl marks. they were left from the owner before me so i'm gonna try and buff them out under my uncle's supervision. he's been doin bodywork since the mid 60s so i think he'll steer me in the right direction. just wondering what kind of wax i should use to help take care of those marks so i'm going to try the mother's or something of the such.

You need to work the polish in for 3-5 min.

now that you have some cheap microfiber towels, use those for cleaning your windows, interior, wheels, maybe lower body panels if they are gunky, then upgrade to microfiber towels that cost more than a quarter a piece. Trust me, i started out by buying cheap bulk towels, but after I bought and used some of the sonus der wunder drying and buffing towels from www.autopia-carcare.com those bulk towels will NEVER touch my paint again. you get what you pay for. Also if you want to learn more, they have alot of good how-to's on that site

phil_the_thrill 10-12-2006 11:57 PM

i agree with you 100% that you get what you pay for. these towels were marked down to a crazy price when the store was going out of business. the towels didnt even come in packs of 8 they were zip-tied together to be sold at cost. i bought a microfiber towel from autozone for 16 bucks and its the same as the ones i bought for a quarter a piece. just wanted to clear that up.

I also wouldn't let a microfiber towel from autozone touch my paint, no matter how much it costs. My dad has been using microfiber to clean his bikes and cars for years and even he is stealing my der wunders now. Also what is the ratio on that 16 dollar autozone towel like 60/40, 65/35? because 16 bucks for one towel seems really steep, like REALLY steep. Even my 70/30 der wunder drying towels were only 10 bucks a piece.

phil_the_thrill 10-14-2006 08:37 AM

they were 65/35 and it came with two

03gtmustang 10-14-2006 09:18 AM

These are the only ones that touch my paint, http://autogeek.net/coinmipoclsc.html

yeah 2 for 16 is alot better than 1 for 16. 65/35 is a good ratio, i bet they are damn soft. Enjoy.

$16 for two microfiber towels? geez, I'll stick to using the ones i get from Meguiars. Get however many I need or want whenever i need them just tell my boy i need more since Barry Meguiar is one of his sponsors.

Do you ever actually add things to a conversation? It seems like you only drop in to tell people how cool you are because you get everything free and then you talk about "one of your boys" so you can impress people on the internet.

Blk02stang 10-15-2006 06:18 PM

Codiddy, No I jus added my 2 cents. I would rather use the free stuff than pay $16 for two microfiber towels. What are you jealous I seem to get free stuff all the time?? Thats what it seems like. I think it's stupid to pay that much for two when as i see it a 8pack from Wal-mart for $5 does the same thing. As for "one of my boys" thats not to impress others, I got friends that are into the Show car circuit...NCCA. I find half the stuff posted just amusing, thats why i'm not on here much anymore. Therefore I dont have anyone to impress, besides getting your attention now....so carry on.

03gtmustang 10-15-2006 06:36 PM

Microfiber IS NOT created equally.

Blk02stang 10-15-2006 06:45 PM

03gt, whats the difference in them? I've never noticed any particular brand to work better.

Codiddy 10-15-2006 07:23 PM

i dont give a shit what you think. all you ever do is post about your boys this or your boys that. start talking about yourself a little more. and the difference in the nap of the towels and the percentage blend is really important, did you even read the thread, or did you just want to tell us about someone who isn't you that is sponsored? I can talk all day about stuff that people i know have, hell most of us could. but i don't because nobody cares.

phil_the_thrill 10-15-2006 09:48 PM

yeah i just bought this kit
