Painting my brake calipers
 

so today at my local parts store i bought the brake caliper paint kit.

how do I go about doing this. the way i would LIKE to do it is completley take off the calipers and sit down at a table and take my time painting them. is that possible to do without bleeding the brake lines? also i've been told that the brushes that come with the kit suck balls...is that true?

i guess you could, but honestly, it isnt that hard while doing them while installed.

didja get the duplicolor? make sure you clean the hell outta those calipers, and do at LEAST 4 coats of paint. seriously.

if u just got duplicolor spray paint then do it on the car


but duplicolor also sells a kit where u ahve to take them off no matter wut this kit is about 25$ and they come out amazingly supposibly or so duplicolor says

I did mine when they were on the car, and it was no problem. You will need like 3-5 coats of the paint for it to look the best, so don't be dissappointed at first. I used the brush that came with the kit and I had no problems. Just take your time and they will look good, its very easy.

My advice? take of the wheel first.

serious, clean clean CLEAN! CLEAN THE HOLY ****ING HELL outta those calipers.

Then put on at LEAST 4 coats.

and yer good. pretty easy

Dupli-crap...lol....you can take the calipers off completely but you will deffinitely have to bleed the brakes.

The way i did it was...

1. Take off the wheels
2. get some plastic bags
3. remove calipers (but not the from the brake lines)
4. clean the calipers up real real real nice
5. cover the rotor with a plastic bag
6. slide the caliper over the bag
7. apply 2-3 coats in 20 minute intravals

if you remove the calipers from the brake lines you will have to bleedd that brakes and that is a PITA

The way i did it was...

1. Take off the wheels
2. got newspaper+tape
3. remove calipers (but not the from the brake lines)
4. didnt clean em...buh
5. cover the rotor with newspaper
6. slide the caliper over the paper
7. apply 2-3 coats in 20 minute intravals
8. it took awhile, but i got a heat lamp and it dried those suckas fast,hehe

and i just bought 1 can of caliper paint at autozone for like $8-9

The way i did it...

1) Drank a bunch of beer
2) kicked the tire
3) drank another beer
3) fumbled around trying to pull the wheel off.
5) Realized i skipped step 4.
4) Drank beer
6) jacked car up, so wheel would come off easier
7) pulled off wheel
8) Decided i needed backup, and called my buddy criegan.
9) Drank a beer with criegan
10) Discussed the best way to handle this with "Man Method"
11) Cleaned the caliper, had to re-clean cause creigan spilled beer on it
12) Taped off the caliper, wheel well, and pretty much the whole damn car.
13) Buddy Dropped by, Enjoyed a cold beer with Criegan and Ben and explained to ben the situation
14) Grabbed the Potato Cannon and the Calcium Carbide.
15) Put a beer in the CC Potato Cannon, fired a beer can roughly 6 blocks, collected 10 bucks on criegans bet
16) Horsed around with the Cannon some more, got good idea.
17) Got a small balloon and filled it with Caliper Paint.
18) Fueled up the Cannon and put the baloon in said cannon.
19) Fired Cannon with a full Calcium Carbide shot in the garage at the caliper.
20) staggeded around dazed and drunk. Found criegan laying in the street, revived him with beer.
21) Found a beer and drank in in quiet cause i couldnt hear a ****ing thing. Then relized Ben was somewhere too.
22) Found been laying in the back of the garage under some debris. Revived ben.
23) Realized there was a cop in my driveway, diddnt hear him arrive.
24) Tried to bribe cop with beer.
25) Went to jail.
26)Got out on technicality because i was deaf when the cop read me my rights so i couldnt hear them.
27) Got a ride home from criegan.
28) Pulled off taping around rotor and wheel well.
29) Admired the perfectly painted Caliper, total uniform coverage. Put wheel back on.
30) Drank a victory beer.
31) Bragged to current girlfriend how im such a badass for painting my calipers.
