Stripe Removal
 

Hey Folks

I got a Black 04 GT with the 40th Anniversary Package which includes the ARIZONA BEIGE racing stripes, which cover the TOP of the trunk, and go down the hood.

what i WANT, is to have stripes going up the front of the car, over the hood, over the roof, over the trunk, and down the backside.

The problem is i cannot find any Arizona Beige stripe kits, and im not sure how difficult it would be to match the color, but i havent had ANY luck with that.

So, if i was just gona put on a whole new set of racing strips, i gotta get rid of the old ones.

Does anyone know how to remove these racing stripe decals? I REALLY dont want to try unless i have some solid advice on how to do this.

ANY help would be Greatly appreciated.

Another option i have is to take it to a place where they will remove them themselves and PAINT the stripes on for me. This is ideal, but it is $600-$1800 depending if i want it on or under the clearcoat, and im not even sure if they will remove the current stripes. While i can buy a set of stripe decals for 250 and do it myself.


Anyone else have a similar dialemma? What was your answer?

The stripes are a chore to remove. I took mine off, so I speak from experience.

You need some adhesive remover and a heat gun. Simply heat the stripe, but not too much as the paint can buble, and then just pull it off. You will also need to use the adhesive remover to remove the glue. Expect to spend about 4 hours to remove both of them. It's a slow process.

I checked them out, i found the same stripe kit i have but it said Arizona beige was not available, however, i did ask them in an email and i am waiting for a responce. If they can match that then im set, all i gotta do is the roof, front, and back. The current stripes end a little before the end of the hood and kind of angle in, but i think i might be able to get away with it as they reach pretty close. They have them! Look in their custom color section. For $8 they will send you a book and color samples so you can see if they match.

So a heat gun and some adhesive remover huh? 4 hours? was that front to back? Any reccommendations on the heat gun brand and type? Just the hood! I actually used a hair dryer, and then got a heat gun. The gun worked a lot better.

So if i do this, with the heat gun, it should just peel off slowly? I have never done anything like this before, but im patient and have a steady hand, after doing it yourself would you reccommend a professional? or just a nice sunday afternoon with some spare time?You want to try to get it off in large pieces. Just go slowly. You will get the knack of it.

Did you have to use a razor or something to get under it to get it started? And when you were all done, how did the paint beneath look? should i be ready to go ahead and put the new stripes on immediatly? Buy a package of those rubber speaders that they sell at auto parts stores used for bondo and stuff like that. You can put the new ones on right away, just be sure all the old glue is removed as well as the wax. Get some wax remover too if you want.

I am holding on the stripes for now. I like the car too much as is.

You can try it with a blow dryer as well only it will take a bit to get how compared with the heat gun but not hot enought to toast it.
