Paint Job prices?

Hey guys I dont know anything about paint jobs but had a few questions. Im looking into geting a black paint job on my 97. I just want a factory paint job like off the new mustangs no metal flake just a smooth as glass black paint job. Now i do have a couple of minor dents (smaller then a dime) and i have a patch of bondo about the 6" in diameter on my right rear panel with a peice about the size of a dime missing in that patch of bondo. All of which i would like fixed also...

All this in mind how many coats of primer, paint, clear coat am i looking at? Is there wet sanding involved? Most importantly how much do u think a shop will charge me?:helpsmili

Paint jobs vary hugely in price. It depend on amount of body work, prep time, blah blah blah. For a nice non color change paint job, expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500-3000. You get what you pay for especially in body work. As far as amount of coats, it depends totally on the guy spraying it. Prolly 2-3 coats of base and 3-4 coats clear and you should be set. Shop around and only let someone paint it that you trust. Make friends with painters!!!!

If you want to cut down some of that price sand and prime it yourself if you can do that. The new mustangs have a 3 stage paint which costs a pretty penny.

If you want a good job look to spend over $3,000

do all of the prep your self....meaning take off all ur badges, wet sand it, and (if possible) prime it....but to save a big chunk, do the first 2 steps i mentioned...

Yea thats what i figured it would be around I got a friend who got his explorer painted black for around $700.00 but it was primed 2-3 coats of base and 2 coats of clear i think and its alright i guess but not new looking by any means...

Well it's all going to depend on who you go to and what they tell you. I got my 78 mustang painted black 3 years ago and it is still like glass. i paid $1800 and it was a color change. (i also did ZERO work myself) The guy i went to does excellent work, uses Keystone paint, and is top of the line, with a low cost. It will be a lower cost if a) the engine is already out of the car... or b) you dont want the engine bay painted. I also 3 weeks ago got my 89 stang painted a bright green (close to signal green made by ppg) and that cost was $2100 including removing the orange peel (basically wet sanding and buffing after the clear coat is applied to give it an extremely smooth show look) it will all depend on where you go and how much the guy likes you!! you don't always get what you pay for like some people think, like i said, $2100 got me a show car, and $1800 is lasting very very strong after 3 years

oh and i forgot to mention... on my 89... my hood flew up and cracked the entire cowl panel including the sheet metal, and dented most of the top of my car. :wallbash: i also had a nice rust spot on the hatch like foxbodies are notorious for. and i still had a great price like that
