SCT Xcal3

ok, im going to order it pretty soon and i was wondering how to fill out the info thing. i know how to but kinda puzzled on some of the Q's. like these

Year and Model of your car - i know this lol
Computer code (Click here to locate your code) - i know what this is
Octane Used (If not specified we automatically tune for 93+ for maximum gains, 91+ in CA) - i have a 01' V6 auto..should i just tune it for 87?
Rear and Transmission - puzzled, sorry does this mean gears? and if its an auto or if my rear is 7.5 or what?
Stock or Modified- what does this mean?
Stock/H/X-Pipe Catalytic Converters or Not - i'd have O/R h-pipe, so thats what i put?
Mufflers or Straight-through/Glasspack Style Exhaust - i have mufflers lol. this right?
List of all modifications- i know what this is

so the other questions are confusing me a bit. sorry.

you can do whatever tune you want for octane. Mine has 3 I have a 87 performance, 93 gas mileage, and 93 performance. For the rear yeah 7.5 stock gears and transmission is auto. Stock or modified means is you car stock. If you don't have the O/R H pipe yet don't install the tune until you install the midpipe (if you end up listing that as your exhaust). The muffler depends on the kind of mufflers you get but chances are you will just be getting mufflers. Since you really haven't done any mods yet I would hold off on buying this

If you are looking for good gains, you want to at the very least tune for 91+ Octane. This the fuel that will deliver the advertised average gains on a stock vehicle. Which for a 2001 V6 is about 19 horse power and 20 torque. 93+ tuning will squeeze out a few more ponies and torque over 91+, delivering the best performance. While 87+ octane, while maximizing your engines performance, efficiency, and fuel economy, will only give you 2 or 3 horsepower over stock.

An automatic will feel like it gained decent horsepower compared to a manual with an 87+ tune because of the transmission tuning, but the actual gains are still the same.

so that means when i go to fill up my car i wont use unleaded(87) anymore? i'd use 91+

correct but your gains with an aftermarket exhaust will be MAX 8 rwhp and around 12 rwtq

V6_Mustang_Power 01-28-2008 07:20 PM

is it safe for my 01 v6 auto to be running on 91+ octane? cause i've always used 87.

Dave04Mustang 01-28-2008 08:26 PM

if you get the car tuned for a different octane then yes it is safe

V6_Mustang_Power 01-28-2008 08:33 PM

kk, i would have to empty my gas tank before i fill it up with 91 wouldnt I? Not sure if its a good idea to mix 87 and 91 together lol.

Dave04Mustang 01-28-2008 08:41 PM

its not that hardcore.. just fill your tank up with 91+ the week before you load up the tune or something. Your car won't break down if you put 91+ octane in it when its not tuned it just won't help you any but waste your money.. if you do it long term i suppose it could cause some damage. Also you don't have to do a premium octane tuners recommend it but its not needed like I said I have a 87 performance, 93 performance and the 3rd is either 87 or 93 gas mileage i forgot which one exactly since i haven't used it. and the tank doesn't have to be bone dry gas is gas it makes the car move. it can mix just wait until it gets a little less than a quarter of a tank or something haha

V6_Mustang_Power 01-28-2008 08:48 PM

kk. thank you :)

The higher octane fuels will not harm your motor, but would be a waste of money if you car was not tuned for them, either from the factory or with an aftermarket tune. The higher the octane rating of the fuel, the more resistant to detonation the fuel is. Detonation, commonly referred to as knocking or pinging because of the noise it makes, is when the gas ignites from the heat and pressure inside the cylinder while the piston is still on the up stroke. This can be extremely harmful to your motor as the engine is pushing the piston up at the same time as the combustion is pushing the piston down.

When tuning, much of the power lost on the factory tune comes from the manufacturers having to make the factory tune safe to run on the poorest quality 87+ octane you will come in contact with, without causing detonation. This is why tuners will always recommend 91+ or higher since they can make the tune much more aggressive. The higher the octane you tune for, the much higher the gains will be.

This is also why you should always use a quality name brand gas, because believe it or not, all gas is not created equal! Low quality, generic brand-x fuels, convenience mart, and discount wholesale fuels could cause pinging in a tuned car, even if you are running the octane it is tuned for. Saving 5 or 6 cents a gallon at the pump of a low quality gas station will cost you in the long run. Studies have shown that even in non-tuned cars that gas mileage from 2 gas stations right next to each other can vary by up to 60 miles per tank! Basically you should always use a quality name brand gas such as Sunoco, Mobile, Exxon, Shell, etc.

Stock or Modified
i only have 4.10 gears, posi lock, and dual exhaust. should i put modified or stock?

List of all modifications
so here i would put down 4.10's, psoi lock, and dual exhaust?

V6_Mustang_Power 05-26-2008 08:25 PM

so this i s how i fill it out?

There fixed it for ya. Cars modified so you want to make sure you don't get a stock tune. I didn't get mine from AM so I'm not sure if you get 2 tunes I thought it was only 1. I have 3 on mine (93 performance, 87 gas mileage, 87 performance. I use the 87 used 93 back when gas was cheaper) and I would get a 87 tune if you can as well because for the list of mods its not really worth running a premium gas on a lightly modded v6 with the rate gas prices are. :( damn gas haha

V6_Mustang_Power 05-29-2008 07:03 AM

you can switch stuff in the handheld tuner when you get it can't you?
