How to spray the smoked spray on headlights
I dont know about you guys but i want to make my car look as sexy as i can but money is a big issue . So even before I ever bought a car Iv always loved the smoked headlights and taillights , I use to put them on all my cars in need for speed lol .But am to broke to actually buy the smoked lights . My freind sprayed the lights on hes bmw and it looked nice so I decided to do the same.
So i got up this morning ate some cinnamon toast crunch, went to the store and bought the spray .Now my advise to anyone planning on doing this is take the whole day off to do this dont try to rush it . I called my freind with the bmw , he told me i had to take the lights out mask it in plastic so u dont paint the wires and all of that....I had no idea on how to remove the lights i looked at the vedios on AM they explain it pretty good .Its pretty easy just grab some plastic and some tape ,tape the plastic to the outside of the glass so it covers everything on the lights exsepct the glass .Your suppose to put the lights side by side and spray them both at the same time so u get a even coat and u dont have one realll dark light than the other one light .Shake the can up real good spray on something else first to make sure its not splurging out , than just hold it like 8 inches away from the light and spray away but like try to keep the same motion ...either go up and down or side to side when u spray. Your suppose to just lay down one coat at a time let it dry than come in and lay another coat repeat the process till its the dark to te point you want it to be.Now heres where I screwed up am to unpatiant and tryed to speed the process up and I just kept on spraying till it got dark like i wanted it it, And what happend is I have like llittle drips goin down the headlights , cant really notice it unless u come up close to it but still would have been better with out the spots. But other than that its pretty easy thing to do as long as you are patiant and follow all the instructions take your time with it , make sure you clean the lights real good , do it in a clean place some where that its not windy .I wish i had first just sprayed it on some other glass that i dont need so I could test it out first and get a better idea of how to do it .But it still looks nice tho I love it ill post some pictures later |
Yes, we love pics. Interesting thought too, not a lot of people (that I know) do the headlight/taillight painting anymore. It was real popular here in town a couple of years ago but it's really died since. And if the little "drips" are bothering you, take some paint thinner and redo them.

i like the idea of putting both side to side to get the even coat.. my only question is can u remove the sprayed on tint at a later date to sell it.
|
i dont know if u can remove it but king posted saying that i could use paint thinner so i guess u can

Having never actually done it, I cannot say for certain. But it makes sense. You're painting it on, so hypothetically a paint thinner would/should work fine.

Ya I hear you ,if anything Id spray some ramndom peice of glass with the spray let it dry then try the thinner on it and see what happends

A good idea.

Heres a another good write up. I'd suggest clear coating them. You can wet sand them to remove the drips, then spray some clear coat on to protect them and help bring the shine back. :GotPics: |
am working on the pics but my camera got broken into 5 diffrent peices so am trying to have someone let me use theres

at first they looked fantastic, but after 1 wash i noticed the left one looked a bit lighter than the right, i thought i was seeing shit. anyways, weeks later i noticed they were a lot lighter, then i rubbed one with my thumb and my thumb got tint on it. lol eventually the tint wasnt smooth anymore either, and got somewhat gritty ive been told that i ju8st did not do it right, im not sure what else i could have done, i took the lights off the car, used formula 409 and cleaned the shit out of them, then cleaned themn again with straight out rubbing achohol, once they dried i applied the stuff in even smooth sprays and let it dry overnight. it came out wonderful, i kept all the dust off, it looked great... for a couple days or so other stuff may fare better, but the crap AM sells with the chinese writing, that stuff is garbage |
Use VHT night shades, spray the lens with an adhesion promoter, then spray the tint, then clearcoat.
Your light output will become blurry, though. Won't be as focused. |

It's like a protective layer of invisible paint. Also let's it shine a little bit more.

You can take the tail light tint spray off by just spraying more of it on. I think the stuff my friend has is called night shade or something. Its a purple can with a black top. You just douse the tinted light in more of the spray and wipe it off quickly. It doesn't get everything, but it gets a lot of it off.
I recently bought the tint can but I'm too afraid to do it. I know it will look nice, but I'm pretty sure that it's illegal in NYS. Plus, all it takes is someone to smash into my back end and say that they couldn't see me hit the brakes because my tail lights were illegally tinted, then I'm screwed. I was thinking about just 1 coat just to make them looked smoked and not tinted. I also thought about doing my stock headlights but I just bought SilverStart 4100k bulbs and I like 'em bright. :D |
