torque vs hp?

Im seeing that the vortech blowers claim 100hp and 70 lbft torque and I was wondering...if there were a blower that claimed 100 lbft torque and 70 hp, which would I feel a bigger difference? Would it depend of the rpm range, since more torque is at loer rpms?

the one with more tq would be faster as tourqe is what actuly moves your car. thats why nitrous is awsome it makes ass tons of tourqe.

no that is not exactly how it works. Torque will get you moving quicker, but the horse power is that end result speed. That is why a kenebell s/c would be an awesome street light to light car.

If you take a novi 2000 mustang and a k/b car on the 1/4 mile, the novi will win. the novi will get off the line first but the centrifugal will pull balls before the line.

so, like, would my friends 97 stock 160HP sunfire, beat my v6 stock stang because he has more tourqe?

cobra4123 10-05-2005 01:17 PM

no because you let all the air outta his tires

weight gearsing etc.. effect all of this. if you had a car with the same gearing weight etc.. i mean identical with the exception og one having 100hp an done with 70hp the 70hp one with 100ft lbs would beat it. tourqe moves your car.

if you ask me Torque is the most important all HP is ia a result of a calculation that uses torque X rpm divided by some number i cant remeber.

MachGT 11-09-2005 09:28 AM

this argument is always funny...

Torque tells you the acceleration of the vehicle

Power (horsepower) is just the torque multiplied by the RPM.

horsepower basically tells you how the torque is being applied.

To get a true idea of the power of a vehicle, you have to look at the dyno chart, not just peak numbers.
