Supercharger questions
 
I've been looking into superchargers for awhile now and couldn't find answers to a few things. I was looking between a kenne bell 2.1L or a procharger high output kit. These are my questions:

1. How much harder is it to install the procharger because I saw that you have to install the intercooler in the bumper and run piping to it and all. My main thing was since Id be installing it myself with a friend or to, which would be easier because if im not mistaken the twin screws have their intercooler under the actual blower which just by common sense would seem to be easier to install and less i could mess up as im not a mechanic.

2. Cost wise I saw that the prochargers are in the mid 4 grand range and the kenne bells around 5 grand. Would it be worth the extra money to do the kenne bell because it doesnt have to "spool" up like the centrifugals do?

3. Also I have 4.10 gears, are those ok with either set up or would I need to drop to 3.73s or stock 3.27s?

4. I saw that each kit gets 400rwhp but I assume thats on a manual and mines a auto. Would I see much lower power to the wheels because I would like to have 400 rwhp or dang close


I love the whine but I also love the whistle of the prochargers at idle so I suppose you can say im torn 50/50. Any advice and info will really help me out since ive done a good amount of research on both of their sites but still hasn't answered some questions

With 4.10's on either would make for a fun car for sure. I think the 4.10's would be better with the Procharger because it will help get the rpms faster and get you into boost sooner. Prochargers are easy to install and I have installed 2 of their kits. Both were simply easy hand tool installs. If anything the Procharger is easier because you don't have to take the top end off the motor.

As for which is better is up to you. The Procharger is gonna make power in the mid to up high rang where as the Kenny Bell does it almost right away makes good power.

If it was me with your gears and an auto and the fact that the Procharger is cheaper, I would go Procharger. I'm also just a Procharger fan too.

4:10's might be too much though. Stock Termi with 4:10's are almost too much. 1st and 2nd are nothing but tire roasters and 3rd can be unless you hook well and don't powershift, which is hard not to do with the T-56.

I would say Procharger for the fact that you can get more power out of it later on for the fact that it does have a separate intercooler.

Kenne Bell's tend to have high charge temps (hot air coming in) because the intercooler is pretty much part of the motor, whereas the Procharger's intercooler can keep it much cooler.

With a Procharger if you ever want to upgrade the actual head unit you just swap it out, maybe get a different bracket.

A KB, you're in for a ride all over again as anything over a 2.1 has clearance issue unless I'm mistaken.

I like the whine of KBs, but the boost blow-off of the Prochargers are nice too.

Powerband is another issue, and like Spike said typically twin-screws will see power starting at about 2000 RPMs, whereas Prochargers/Vortechs see it more around 3000-4000.

I would say it's preferance. Both are nice, and used widely by Mustang drivers so you know they're not junk. But it's all in what you want the car to be.

I'd go Procharger over the KB as well. The low end power is nice, but I love the feel of a centrifugal supercharger which is why I bought a Vortech. I would say those 4.10s and a KB would make for a lot of wheel spin off the line. Go with the Procharger, plus having a front mount intercooler is sweet.

If the car is your daily driver and 400rwhp is your goal and your on the stock block my vote goes to procharger. I had one on my car for about 2 years with no problem. The difference in the kb and the procharger is with the kb your going to have instant power over 2000rpms. As with the procharger your not going to feel it come in until around 3000-4000 rpms but you can really feel the car pulling more and more up top as the rpms climb(really fun on the highway).

KB... bonehead easy install, kickin power in the low-mid rpms, still pulls hard up top, more efficient than most anything except a turbo. Note, I don't like procharger in general but that's bias not tech. I prefer vortech for centrifugal kits.

4.10's are great with a centri but not for a KB or Eaton.

With KB or eaton look at 3.55-3.73.

Either kit will easily deliver 400hp. The centri will take probably 10-12lbs to do it, the KB will probably take closer to 9psi to do it and it'll be a much meatier car. If you get stupid with the throttle, then get a centri... they're more forgiving.

Either way I recommend getting a transmission cooler whenever you s/c the car. It should help your transmission last longer.

Im not buying it now but probably in a year or two. My main thing is deciding between my parents getting my engine rebuilt and me buying the supercharger (which will be a procharger) or buying a S197 gt then saving up for a supercharger because I like the new style alot more than mine. Basically throwing ideas around for now to see how much I should save
