yes, yet another nitrous question

I know the subject has been beat to death...But i'm confused lol... I want to put nitrous oxide on my 92 LX 5.0 w/ heads, cam, upper/lower intake manifold, headers, maf, and 24/lb injectors...I only want an 80 shot, either way what all do I actually need, obviously a decent nitrous kit, window switch, and bottle pressure gauge. But should I go wet or dry and I'm worried if my fuel system will supply enough fuel for nitrous. I have no idea what fuel pump is in the car I just know I have 24lb injectors and a paxton fuel pressure regulator. So my question is do I need to change plugs, timing, and fuel pressure or don't I really have to worry about it with only an 80 shot:confused::confused::confused:

Is it an automatic or 5 speed?

If you want to run a wet kit, your fuel pump now should be able to handle a 75 shot. You will need to change to a plug that is at least 1 heat range colder, your timing will have to be retarded a few degrees.

SLP02GT 04-11-2009 12:29 PM

Its a 5 speed... So basically after I hook it up, should I just go get it dyno tuned before using it? Any kits that you recommend over any others? Thanks

SnTBakosFinest 04-11-2009 12:43 PM

Wet kit

NGK TR6 Spark Plugs
Window Switch
Wide open throttle switch (should come with the kit)
(warmer possibly)
pressure guage
Nitrous kit.. every brand is about the same NOS NX Dynotune Compucar ZEX all are good..
80 shot will require some jetting practice theres a jet calculator on dynotunenitrous.com

Spray 3 thousand RPMS nothing below 3k.

Bottle should be ran between 900-1100 PSI

SnTBakosFinest 04-11-2009 12:44 PM

If the timing is advanced, it needs to be retarded. You don't want advanced timing on a nitrous car.

Tuning is always good but you can run a 80 shot without a tune.

Upon your first pass on nitrous I'd pull the plugs and check for discloration on the plugs..will help to see if you're running rich or lean. On a WET kit you stock fuel system will be fine.

White04GT 04-11-2009 12:58 PM

Just change the plug and you should be fine. My buddy installed a nitrous on his bone stock 99 cobra. All he did was change the plugs and put the 100 shot on and its been fine for over a year.

SLP02GT 04-11-2009 01:13 PM

would this kit be an acceptable choice???

When you say no advanced timing do you mean 0 degrees overall cause the stock 5.0 timing is 10 degrees BTDC or do you mean don't advance it past the base 10 degrees?

SnTBakosFinest 04-11-2009 04:43 PM

advancing the timing over stock isn't recommended.

Steeda97 04-11-2009 05:44 PM

You can spray on the stock tune up to 100 shot i believe. I'd just get a handheld, grab a nitrous tune from Brenspeed or MPH. Change out your plugs (NGK TR6).

I had some issues with the ZEX kit but they resolved them. All in all its a pretty good kit for a beginner. I'm spraying 125 and I got a 12.6 out of it. From N/A I gained 1.2 seconds on my ET. With traction a possible 1.4 seconds.

Trust me, if your thinking your only going to want a 75 shot your wrong. You'll want more. lol.

SLP02GT 04-11-2009 05:52 PM

So ok. so far I need to back the timing off, adjust fuel pressure, and change to a colder plug. Is this it? Im afraid of blowin her up, lol. These NGK TR6 plugs will work for my 5.0L? right I know most guys on this forum are running 4.6L's. I really want to start ordering this stuff tonight but I might puss out, lol. Don't want to blow it up

SnTBakosFinest 04-11-2009 06:02 PM

you won't blow it as long as you are safe with it.

SLP02GT 04-11-2009 06:48 PM

where can I tap into the fuel system for the nitrous kit? I would use the schrader valve on the fuel rail but my adjustable fuel pressure regulator is on that. So where where else would you suggest tapping into??

spike_africa 04-11-2009 07:13 PM

5L cars are a bit different the rules of thumb that you hear for the 2v guys. I don't have time to get into this right now though.

spike_africa 04-12-2009 11:27 AM

Ok the fuel system on those cars suck. They come with tiny fuel pumps and if its never been replaced then its very old as well. For the cheap cost of a high volume pump go and upgrade it for sure then you can spray a good amount of nitrous. For a 100 shot just take it back to stock timing and thats fine or pull 1* if you really are worried. After that you need a set of colder spark plugs and use 93 octane and you are good to go.

Your nitrous kit will come with the attachment to get fuel from the fuel rail. Since you already have a attachment hooked up you just need another fitting that will go inline with this and give you a port for the nitrous. Or the regulator might already have a port for this on it like many others.

I really like the nitrous works kit for the 5L cars and their spray plate is pretty badass. Check it out here.

Of course I like the Compucar kit aswell as thats what I run on my car.

Oh yeah I agree go luck only running a 75 or 100shot on that 5L you will want more and the 302 ca handle a good amount of nitrous even with a 100% stock short block.

wait wait that things still got a carb on it right? and is it pre--obdII? they don't even make a tuner for that mofo..everything can be adjusted w/o a tuner as far as timing goes :O

5.0's went MAF after 1988 carbs went away after 1986. i think obd 2 started in 93 or 94 im not sure. timing should be pretty easy for this guy to set since its manual and not electronic.

SLP02GT 04-12-2009 06:11 PM

No its definately fuel injected and MAF, lol. Either way I got everything figured out now. and spike you are right my fuel pressure reg does have a port, thanks for the help! Now the final descison I got to make it what system to buy...The compucar system has the best price i have seen so far.

SLP02GT 04-12-2009 06:13 PM

yea timing is cake to set you just pull the spout connector out of the distributor and turn it. and check the timing w/ a light..can't get much easier :)

SnTBakosFinest 04-12-2009 07:37 PM

dynotune nitrous i think sells a full wet kit for like $400

Compucar and Dynotune are both great companies though so its just purely up to you..

spike_africa 04-13-2009 05:00 AM

Only thing I will say is don't go dry and don't get Venom and you should not have a problem with any company. You should look into that Nitrous works plate it. Its pretty awesome. Also Nos makes a plate kit that goes between the upper and lower intakes as well if your interested in that.
