Novi 2000 or Vortech?
 

Hi guys i am right now looking at the mongoose supercharging kit and my questions are what is the difference between a votech s and sq trim? Also should i go with the novi 2000 or vortech s or sq trim? I'm looking for power with some good daily driveability and long lasting performance for my car which of these sounds best suited for my needs?

Vortech SQ, you should also look at the Kenne bell twin screw superchagers! They are some of the best and deliver the power you might be looking for! :)

all i know about these is that SQ means super quiet thats all i know. the kenne belle s/c probably is the best out there. i would buy it myself but i dont have 5 grand and labor cost. centri. s/c's are easier to install and dont come fully online until your in the higher rpms which is perfect for my automatic.

Kenne Bell is well suited for the street. The Paxton and Vortech are better for the track. As you said they are cheaper to buy and install plus easier to tune. Paxton is now owned by Vortech. The Mongoose kit with the Steeda flash is supposed to be a real good set up.

Vortech's S trim is referred to the V-1 blower while the SQ is the V-2 version. The V-1 has straight cut gears and the V-2 has helical cut so the V-1 is a lot noisier. Also, the V-2 is about 2-3% more efficient the the V-1.
With that said, Paxton units are self-contained, so they have their own oil supply built-in while Vortech requires you to tap the oil pan so it can circulate engine oil through the blower.

Thanks for that info. I knew the Vortech had to tap into the engines oil system but did not know about the Paxton.

I thought the only self contained blowers were the procharger, are you sure that that isnt who you are thinking of, dont mean to like insult your intellegence, but just wanted to know if its true or not. Thanks

Since we are talking superchargers here. Is there like a F.A.Q or anything on what all parts are needed before installing a SC? The reason I ask is because I am a total noob when it comes to Superchargers, and I don't know what internals you need to prepare for a supercharger or anything.

Are there any mods that one shouldn't waste their time on that would work good for a n/a car compared to a SC car?

for a basic kit you dont need anything. the ATI,kenny bell, vortec come with all the things needed to add the blower.

of course people here are gonna tell you cant drive it without a tune, this is not true, they come with a FMU (fuel manegment unit) this takes of the fuel. some will come with a new pump or inline pump so if it does add it. other than that it will come with all the things needed.

unless you get a kit with some large amount of boost like 11#'s plus, you will need to ditch the FMU and get injectors and maybe a pump upgrade. but i asume form your post you will be buying a standerd kit such as the 6 or 8 psi vortec. so like i said they will inclue what you need.

then of course you can add exhuast, intake etc.. to make it breath better and make more power.

Basically, whenever possible, ditch the FMU and get bigger injectors/pump.

Yeah if you can afford it a set of injectors and a pump along with a tune will generaly give better power and driveablity "generally"

Thanks a lot guys. I was thinking of one of the basic kits because I will not be doing any hardcore racing or anything. So basically I don't even need a tune after it is installed. But I would probably pay someone to install it because I would be afraid to spend that much money and then screw something up.

Yeah with a 6-8# kit the FMU "will work" but I myself would get a good tune. It's good for a few extra ponies not to mention a little peice of mind. Why waste all that money if it's just going to blow up not saying it's going to but why take the chance. Also KB blowers are really good!! Pricey but worth every $$$$ in my opinion.

personaly I would only consider an ATI. but if i could afford a kenny bell i might go that route. but for me it would still most likly be a ATI Procharger. to bad i am a nitrous guy :)

I have decided to go with a procharger myself. If all goes to plan it will be on by MustangWeek 2005 in July :)
