.035 plug gap for nitrous
 

When gapping plugs at .035 for nitrous use, how does the car feel when driving normal(not using nitrous)? Does the smaller gap take away power? How noticeable is it?

All the gap does it lite the fuel. The smaller gap will still be effective enough to lite the fire. Your car will run just the same. Out of curiosity what shot of nitrous and what plug are you running?

haven't installed it yet. It's a Nitrous express wet system. I will be using the 100 shot. Right now my plugs are Motorcraft (forgot the #, but are 1 step colder than stock) gapped at .050.

i'm just gathering info prior to my install. What plugs and gap do you recommend? i've never played with nitrous, so any advice is appreciated!

I also have an SCt2 tuner. Should I use a 100shot nitrous tune or just reinstall my stock tune? Do I have to take out any timing with either?

You can run the stock tune no problem on a 100 shot, but if you have a tune preset up just use it. I have tried alot fo plugs over the years using nitrous and I like NGK TR6 plugs they are one step colder copper plugs and come pre gapped at .035" I still check every plug before installing though to make sure.

just a word of advice

an .035 gap on the street will give you hard starts, waste fuel and prob foul out in no time on the street...my advice is to have 2 sets of plugs, one for the street and one for when you run Nytrous...also trying to gap a street plug to .035 is not going tobe easy as most "street" plugs are designed tobe of a "wide gap" nature and tighting-up these sort of plugs will not give you a true .035 (or less) gap, the gap infact might be .035 on one side but prob .040 or more on the backside......if you need to run a tighter gap and only have access to one set of plugs, I'd go .044 for a common ground gap.....if you going the 2 plug route, find a set of plugs that are NOT of a "wide gap" design, like a "race" plug.....

My car is just a daily driver with nitrous installed for more fun or for an occasional street race. What would happen if I would just leave my plugs in that I have now? Gapped at .050

PS: Randy, I bought these from you. They are Motorcraft copper, 1 step colder than factory.

wth a .050 gap and the increased cylinder pressure brough on from the Nytrous, it would blow the spark-out and cause a huge misfire and maybe even a Nytrous backfire......

I don't want a backfire.......looks like I'll buy new plugs!

Spike posted that the NGK TR6 copper plugs work well with nitrous and come gapped at .035. I'll probably try them.

that is what i used when i ran my 125 shot wet kit... like I said just make sure you go with copper plugs with the nitrous..
and you can run a 125 shot safe with just a fuel pump upgrade (under $100)

how did your car run when not spraying?

I run NGK TR6's gapped at .035 in my sixer and I have no problem on startups and no difference in fuel..

However, I do check my plugs every other week..

fine man, i mean i didn't have any issues.. start ups were fine.. fuel was the same... but like i said i was running a 255lph pump and a 125 shot :)

that's what i'd do if i were you.. but since then i've moved to turbos and now to a F1a

I only run NGK TR6's gapped at .035 and my car runs fine on the street. No issues at all. Plus they are like $18 a set. Another thing you might wanna consider is running race gas when you spray. It's just more insurance against detonation.
