Supercharger vs procharger

I know i ask alot of questions but you guys have the answer and/or the experience... I want to know what is better a supercharger or a procharger? What are the up and downs for both the systems?

a procharger is a supercharger.

procharger is just a company that makes supercharging systems for all types of cars.

now do you want to know the difference between different centrifugal superchargers I.E vortech, paxton and procharger or do you want to know the differences between a centrifugal system and a positive displacement blower?

read this thread and it will layout the basics when it comes to the differences in a centri and postive displacement blower....
supercharger noob facts

Cant beat a procharger system comes with an intercooler and they always make sick power. if i ever go F/I it will be a procharger system. Thats what all of us F150 guys run too they make the most power. But thats just me, i know guys love Kenny Bell too its not for me.

read the supercharger sticky in general tech. Then ask questions like this one.

OFFTOPIC: but after owning damn near every brand of supercharger(most atleast twice) I would hands down go vortech 100% of the time assuming I was purchasing the kit myself(meaning if I didnt buy a car allready equipted).

From what I have read and from conversations with tuners, Procharger would be the last I would buy. I know two tuners who will not touch them.

When I was looking at blower brands, the tuner I was going to use plainly told me that if I were to buy a Procharger, that they would not touch it.

I went Paxton and both the tuners that I know who won't work with Procharger, both have Paxton blowers.

The reason why they don't like Procharger is that they make the most inefficient blower on the market. This is why they come with an I/C, because they make soo much heat that you can't use their design w/o one.

Also, there were a lot of problems with them leaking oil and ruining motors.

I've played with my share of blower cars... Vortech, then Paxton (they're actually owned by the same company), then twin screw, then roots then Procharger.

ATI has the cheapest blowers for a reason and they come with air to air intercoolers instead of the better air-water-air coolers that vortech and paxton use.

procharger is a good kit. basically...just buy one...lol vortech, paxton, procharger...they are all good...only difference is procharger comes with a intercooler and is self lubricated so you dont have to drill a hole in the oil pan. i chose procharger because of the sick numbers on just a bolt on engine i see, along with not drilling into the oil pan (i wasnt up to that task).

On a stock engine mine makes a conservative 364rwhp and 368rwtq...with tb/plenum and header i can be on my way to over 400. and thats only on 91 octane.

But if u got the money...KENNE BELL FTMFW

you dont drill into the pan you use a punch that folds the metal back so you have more surface area to tap threads onto the oil pan.

WaterDR 12-25-2007 11:32 PM

Paxton has a self-lubricated one as well.

cpthowdy 12-26-2007 01:05 AM

kenne bell, nice but cost alot of money.vortech and paxton are both very good and at a good price, also you can find a used one on ebay for a good price.

I never had any problems with my p1sc for the year i had it. The car made 399/378 on 9-10psi on a stock car with l/ts, o/r x-pipe,catback and bullit intake. You can pick them up cheap 2100-2400. Only reason i sold the procharger was because i was looking to upgrade to a D1. But then i sold the p1 and bullit intake for 3500 and the cost of the upgrade from p1 to d1(1000) it only cost me 500-600 to go with the KB 2.2. I would look for a used s-trim/novi 2k/KB you cant go wrong with any of them.

flyinfox 12-26-2007 03:00 PM

tell s0mbody about KB costing money look at sig money pit

Procharger sounds like its an ice grinder the thing sounds terrible.
procharger is made for the track not the street they are not about efficiencey just big boost.

i disagree. i takes a smaller pulley on the vortechs and paxtons to make the same amount of boost. The slower you can spin the blower to get boost, the better.

for instance my 3.2 pulley makes 15psi on a p-1, a D-1 would be an even bigger pulley for that psi. so in my opinion that is more efficient than the others.

most people dont like prochargers because they overspin the bearing by over revving the car and that causes the supercharger to leak and thats why most people think that prochargers leak so much, they just dont know what they did.

I dont know why they wont touch procharger that is odd to me, personally.

umm no, prochargers just run hot thats the only problem i see with them. the seals leaked because people shredding belts and it fawked up the outer seal. prochargers come with intercoolers because they run hot, hence my first sentence.

how the F does a supercharger over rev a car? that doesnt make sense to me. please explain..

i have a s trim vortech that pulls 10-20* above ambient temperatures with a paxton intercooler at full boost in 3rd gear. thats a 3.1 pulley at 12 PSI so i would say thats pretty damn efficient.

belts usually shred because it isnt done right. ive never shredded a belt in 2 years with it mostly daily driven til now. the seals leaking are from usually what i said before.

running hot is irrelevant when they come with intercooler and then they are fine. hense no problems. my friend runs his procharger kit all day long on road course. no overheating.

when you over rev your car say by missing a gear or going farther than your redline. the higher your car revs the faster your supercharger spins. so you over rev and hit 7k+ you can hurt it.

and my point exactely 3.1 pulley is 16psi on a p-1sc. thats 4 more psi on same pulley.

so basically because they sell intercooled with supercharger the overheating argument doesnt hold ground. i lapped 4 straight 1/4 runs and didnt even get any hotter than normal.

Im getting a D1 installed shortly so Ill chime in and let you know how it does. If you live in a hot climate intercooler is a must.

i wish i had a D-1. i had know idea when i bought mine that you could upgrade for so cheap.

now it is $1300 to upgrade to a D-1. for that i will save up for a custom turbo kit and get a real upgrade.
