VCN-1000 kit lean issue
I know I'm new here and you are thinking I haven't searched...but I did.
I found two people I believe that have attempted to tune on the dyno with a VCN-1000 and have issues running lean. I was just wondering if there are any other people here that have had this same problem. I own a few cars but one of them is a nitrous fed 2000 cougar. Over the past few years I have gone back and forth with Jose at Python (best customer service ever). I've sent my dyno charts and tests to Jose and he has replaced my control module multiple times. But it's like the control module is not pulsing the injectors at all. We added some fuel with my S-AFCII but that is not how it should be done. Sorry for the long post but I'm looking to see if there are any owners here who have been able to get their VCN-1000 kit to actually pulse the injectors. I've seen this exact same problem on the Maxima boards and other Mustang boards. Some background on the cougar SVT upper and lower intake man. SVT 19lb inj. SVT TB CAI MSDS headers Y-pipe test pipe with bung welded for dyno Tru Bendz exhaust ASP underdriven crank pulley TR6 NGK plugs Apexi S-AFCII VCN-1000 Derale oil cooler and other crap too |
Are you saying that the VCN-1000 would not add any fuel at all? Or just not respond to the dyno tuner?

I had the venom 1000 and recently blew my engine, i do not know if it was because of the nitrous kit, as i was only running a 50 shot without the bottle heater. I wish I could help you out but if my engine failure is because of the nitrous then I would guess that it was running lean, and the injectors weren't being pulsed or being pulsed very little
BTW the venom 1000 is not a tuner friendly system, its a self tuning system |
We tuned the car N/A just tweaking the A/F with the AFCII first.
We got that where we wanted and moved on to some nitrous runs. I turned on the bottle heater got it up to 900psi ran a 50 shot and the A/F went crazy. It went wayyyy lean like 15 or so. I have my doubts it was adding fuel at all. So I sent the module back a few times and Jose mentioned that he could set the kit to pulse the maximum amount of fuel it is capable of. I told him to do that. I took it back to my dyno and it ran lean again. I have 2lb larger SVT injectors and my fuel pump is definetly not running out of steam. I've been on the phone with Jose for countless hours. He's always prompt on trying to help me out but I just don't think this kit works right. I believe it's less complicated than some on this site make it out to be. It doesn't monitor the A/F ratio through the voltage from the O2 sensor to add the amount of fuel it needs. It is supposed to pulse the same amount of fuel each time no matter how lean the car runs. I believe the O2 sensor is monitored just to watch the A/F and if it goes lean then it cuts off nitrous flow. |
There is no way to tune with the VCN-1000. If you want the car tuned correctly, you should sell the kit and buy an NOS or Nitrous Express kit. The Venom kit is supposed to adjust fuel on its own, but thats just what its SUPPOSED to do ....lol.

Also, if you do buy another kit in the future, make sure its a wet style kit. Much easier to tune, and you dont need larger injectors

I could not buy a true dry kit since my car runs a returnless fuel system
and I have no FPR. Yeah I may end up putting this on ebay.:bash: :censored: Oh well you live you learn. On the upside I went to Fun Ford Weekend what a turn out!!!! My favorite was the 1400HP 86 Thunderbird 460ci twin turbo setup. |

I might try one more thing.
If I can get it to atleast pulse the injectors I can be safe with my 50 shot and still not tune it. I have two step colder plugs and high octane I just need it to add some fuel. I think it's pulling a false reading from my O2 sensor. I really don't want to get another nitrous kit because I'm trying to move on to my 65 and just finish this car. |
I'll assume you turned off your traction control system too? This by default leans out the motor, other than that you may need to check into a Diablo MAFia to get the correct A/F adjustment. I had some problems with my supercharger re: A/F until it was tuned with the MAFia... I don't use Nitros, so I may be completely off base here just didn't see it mentioned.

Got it tuned over the winter with the 100shot Diablo predator 3 pos. switch and put down 368rwhp & 471rwtq! I did switch to a SVT Focus fuel pump & FRPP 30lb inj. It can be tuned!
