A Wake up Call
Not sure if this is the right place for this thread or not. If it's not please feel free to move it to the proper place. A friend on another board posted this and I thought it was very touching. So I thought I would share it with all of you.
Dear God: Why didn't you save the school children at? Virginia Tech, Amish Country, PA, Columbine High School, Moses Lake, Washington 2/2/96, Bethel, Alaska 2/19/97, Pearl, Mississippi 10/1/97, West Paducah, Kentucky 12/1/97, Stam P, Arkansas 12/15/97, Jonesboro, Arkansas 3/24/98, Edinboro, Pennsylvania 4/24/98, Fayetteville, Tennessee 5/19/98, Springfield, Oregon 5/21/98, Richmond, Virginia 6/15/98, Littleton, Colorado 4/20/99, Taber, Alberta, Canada 5/28/99, Conyers, Georgia 5/20/99, Deming, New Mexico 11/19/99,Fort Gibson, Oklahoma 12/6/99, Santee, California 3/ 5/01 and El Cajon, California 3/22/01 Sincerely, Concerned Student ----------------------------------------------------- Reply: Dear Concerned Student: I am not allowed in schools. Sincerely, God ---------------------------------------------------------- How did this get started?... ----------------- Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained She didn't want any prayer in our schools. And we said, OK... ------------------ Then, Someone said you better not read the Bible in school, The Bible that says "Thou shalt! Not kill, Thou shalt not steal, And love your neighbors as yourself," And we said, OK... ----------------- Dr. Benjamin Spock said We shouldn't spank our children when they misbehaved because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem. And we said, An expert should know what he's talking about. So we won't spank them anymore... ------------------ Then someone said Teachers and principals better not Discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said No faculty member in this school Better touch a student when they misbehave Because we don't want any bad publicity, And we surely don't want to be sued. And we accepted their Reasoning... ------------------ And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote Profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record music that encourages Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes... And we said, it's just entertainment And it has no adverse effect And nobody takes it seriously anyway, So go right ahead. ------------------ Now we're asking ourselves Why our children have no conscience, Why they don't know right from wrong, And why it doesn't bother them to Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves. ------------------ Undoubtedly, If we thought about it long and hard enough, We could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with... "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW," Pass it on If you think it has merit! But if you discard this thought process, Then don't sit back and complain about what bad shape this country is in!! |
Or maybe it diddnt have anything to do with god and instead had to do with the fact he wasnt taking his meds.
As for learning right from wrong, i think the parents have a bit more to do with that than the school does.... lol... |
Yeah, because the parents for any of that arent to blame, lets just pass the blame off to society.
O and by the way, the separation of church and state, albeit hard to see these days, is there for a reason. God doesnt have a place in public schools. If you want to have your children learn about religious ideals, send them to a parochial school / Christian school. It's how this country was founded and it should damn well stay that way. Country isn't in bad shape because of a lack of God. Quite the contrary in my eyes. This country is in bad shape because of a little too much God and thoughts on divine right and superior religion. Blame falls on the parents decisions, not on society. To me, the Bible is a collection of stories to show people how to live a nice life and be a good person. It doesnt say much more beyond that. There are too many contractions and unproven things in the Bible to not make me a skeptic. There are SOOO many other things that irk me about the Christian religion that I am not even going to get into Whoever wrote that letter originally, however, seemed to miss the whole point about child rearing. Teach your children what is right and wrong, and on your own teach them the values you might hold dear about religion, and they will probably end up being an ok person. If they are prewired by nature to possibly snap in such a way that might be violent, so be it, there isnt anything that any good parenting can do in order to stop such a reaction from happening. Welcome to life. |
Shambles... thanks for saving me all that typing.
Religion is what's wrong with gawd. Take a bunch of parables, add a leading man and some deliverance from <insert unfortunate situation here> stir in a pinch of ignorant belief and you have, the end of what could have been a good thing. Just like I tell all the bible thumpers that come to my door, "The Bible... no thanks. Read the book and saw the movie... too much sex and violence." |
honest question here red...are you sayin you dont believe in God? Or are you sayin you think religion is warped?...i agree that religion is warped but i very much believe in God...as for the letter that started this thread....posting chain mail is a bit low isnt it..i got that letter in a email sayin pass it on awhile back and i deleted it...maybe i'll just start copying all that junk here
but as for the letter itself... god should be allowed in school...but which god? so many different religions...maybe it should be up to the parents on sunday to bring religion into kids life spanking kids when they are bad is the responsibilty of any parent worth his/her salt...if a parent lets soceity tell him/her how to raise their kid then shame on him/her tv/movies/music? my mom used ta cover my eyes when somethin bad was goin on...not so hard is it...mom or dad was always around to do it when i was a kid...by the time i was old enough to be alone...i knew what was good or bad guess it all comes back to the parents...just like shambles said |

I could get into a whole theistic debate, but I'm not knocking that having a higher power can help in some things in life. I don't think red is either. It seems to me that he has issue with the practice and nature of religion, rather than the simple teachings of it.

I don't feel God and religion should be in schools. Not everyone in school believes in god or participates in a religion, so why should they have to sit through it. I also don't like how religion plays a huge role in politics. Just because something comes from the bible doesn't make it right, does it? Say a law or something isn't passed because that president is against it because of something it says in the bible. Why does this make it right? It might not be something I believe in, but politics shouldn't determine the outcome of things based on the bible.

Very true. If a gay couple wants to get married then let them. It's not affecting anyone but themselves, but since the bible is against it then it's not "right". Yet a priest or bishop having sex with a little boy is written in the bible as alright? Hmmm...Thats interesting.
|
now that's a statement I can go with. fixing marriage by not allowing it is akin to burning a village to save it. I think it's the word "marriage" that has all the bible thumpers up in arms. Call it "joined" or "civil union" and destroy the legal definition of marriage. Marriage in the modern age is a financial contract anyway... it's not even a religious contract so how gawd ever got into the mix I don't know.
you want to play butt pirate, have fun. turn yourself into a caracature of goatse (google it if you don't know...warning EXTREMELY GROSS & NSFW) if you want. Stay together forever with your butt-friend and have a wonderful life not breeding. Just stay together... |
Hey now, don't leave out the hot lesbians. Oh wait, that never usually happens except for in movies. The only lesbians wanting to get married are the dykes.
