Lowered the Stang

Just a few new pics of the car. It was lowered today with H&R super sports. I thought it would be a bit lower, but I'm still happy with it. Also... I have a black GT rear bumper that is getting painted and installed in about 2 weeks... then a Mac Catback.

I'm getting ready to leave right now, but later tonight I'll post a before and after pic of the lowering.

Drive it a while, the springs will settle and lower it even more.

mustangV6_04 03-09-2011 07:44 PM

Ya they take a bit to settle. After a few weeks and your still not happy take the isolators out.

whitestang04 03-09-2011 08:02 PM

It looks great man. like the other guys have said the springs will settle a bit.

Did you install caster/camber plates and new shocks and struts with the new springs?

I had maximum motorsports c/c plates installed, but the shocks/struts are still stock. I plan on getting Bilsteins soon. I didn't buy new isos, so I guess they re-used the old ones?

After the exhaust is on, I'll probably get black center caps and smoked taillights... then take a break for a while. Only thing left after that is cobra side skirts. I'll do the before/after pic when the springs have settled.

And Cobra mirrors. Or paint the stockers.

Yea, that's on my list too. I also want coilovers and an 8.8 rear... but I'm in college, so I'm broke. I don't drive it too much, so hopefully the shocks will hold up until I get the bilsteins.

whitestang04 03-10-2011 09:13 AM

Your plans sound good and those Bilsteins will be a great match with the H&R Supersports or any future coilover upgrades. Good choice going with the Maximum Motorsports caster camber plates too, their the best.

I want to warn you though the Supersports are a much higher spring rate than the stock shocks and struts are designed for which is going to kill them pretty soon. I have Eibach Prokit springs which are much softer and they killed my shocks/struts in about 1 1/2 years. Just want you to have a heads up so you can put away a few bucks for when the time comes. I am probably going to pick up a set of Tokico D-Spec adjustables to replace my stockers.

I want coilovers really bad... but for a basically stock daily driver, they would kinda be over kill. My big plans are to put the car away in the garage after I get another dd. And once I'm out of college, turn it into my project car. Brakes, then suspension and rear... then new motor, etc. (I know everyone with a v6 always says this stuff, but I'm actually dedicated to the idea.) Got alot of memories with the car and am never selling it anyways.

Thanks everyone for the comments... give me a few weeks for the before/after pics, so the springs can settle.

looks great. i'm planning on doing a similar suspension set up that you've stated.

i was curious as to how much distance would be in between the tire and fender. looks nice though. i have a similar rim set up as you and i thought it might look weird if i just did springs (and later shocks/struts) but it looks nice.

be sure to get pictures later on when they settle.

Yea, other than the super sports and c/c plates... the suspension is all stock. So that's basically what it will look like. I just wish bilsteins werent so expensive, but I should have some soon. Coilovers just weren't in the budget, or necessary yet.

Does anyone know if a shop would re-use old isos? Epecially if they had 80 thousand miles on them? I didn't buy new ones... and don't really know what they look like, so I was gonna go out later today and look underneath the stang and see if the shop kept them on. Still learning as I go.

His pictures aren't the best representation yet since they haven't settled yet. The appearance won't change at all with shock and struts or caster camber plates. Those just effect the alignment and handling characteristics of the car.

I'll use resident PColas's mustang (H&R Super sports) as an example of the settling. I do beleive he removed some iso's though so his might be a little bit lower.
New just installed

I don't blame you, I have no plans of getting rid of mine either. The trick is to make sure that the mods you do work with your future plans so your not buying parts twice and wasting money.

It's hard to say if the shop reused them or installed the new springs without them. There is nothing wrong with reusing them if they are in good shape. I reused mine when I put my springs in.

bigkeeko 03-10-2011 02:39 PM

Looking good. I lowered mine with Eibach pro kit. Like you I thought it would be a bit lower but in the last month she`s settled and dropped another few mm and looks spot on now.

Assuming the shop did re-use them, how hard would it be for me to jack the car up and remove them? I totaly forgot to tell them to leave them off.

Yea, I took my pictures maybe 20 minutes after picking it up from the shop, so hopefully it will lower a bit more soon. Either way, I'm still happy with it. Getting rid of the ugly exhaust pipe and going with a duals in the next week or so is really going to make me happy. So this is turning out to be a good month for my cars progress. lol

Not looking forward to paying for laser red paint, for the new bumper tho.

I am pretty sure you would have to take the springs back out to get rid of the iso's. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. It will still settle down and look GREAT with them and they will give you a bit smoother ride too. If you really decide you want to ditch them then just wait until you do the shocks and struts since you will have to take it all apart for them anyway.

Brontobyte 03-10-2011 06:30 PM

your car would look badass with side exhaust in this picture.

Yea, I'm just being to impatient. I'm sure it will be fine once it settles. Haven't been able to drive it hard since they lowered it... it has rained like crazy everyday, and is sleeting outside right now.

Never really thought about getting a side exhaust, but that would be a badass pic with side exhaust pipes comming out. And no limp dick.

I was scrolling through this and thought I saw a car that looked like mine, haha. Those after pics were after some different struts/shocks and no front isolators, and 1 rear isolator it dropped a bit further.

This is it with factory shocks/struts, H&R SS's, MM CC plates, 1 iso in front and 2 in back.
Attachment 14448

Yours looks about right. Also, the way the CC plates are installed can have an affect on how high the front sits, I believe. Depending on whether there are more spacers installed on the underside of the CC plate versus the top, it could make the front sit higher/lower.

I've always liked the way your car looks man... I've thought about doing what you and sean did; removing the rear wing now that it's lowered.

But maybe it was for the best that I forgot to have the isos removed, since there are four speedbumps in my neighborhood. I may order a gt rear sway bar soon, just for the hell of it.

venom 03-13-2011 12:14 PM

Here is a side by side on struts. I blew the Tok blues when I drop it too much but Bilsteins are holding up great.

Look's good man. I wish I could go with coilovers... just not really worth it right now. I do need Bilsteins though... nothing but curves where I live, and the stock shocks are probably gonna die soon. lol

Shadow_Stang 03-21-2011 07:29 AM

Update: I'm going to post some pics in the next day or so, now that the springs have settled. I also went to the body shop, and they said that for paint/labor and everything... it would be around 350 bucks or so to have the bumper put on. Remember, that's for laser tint red.

One other thing: the front left spring seems to squeek sometimes. Not too bad... but it's kinda annoying if I'm driving through a neighborhood or whatever. It doesn't do it on level ground, but anytime theres a slight bump or drop off in the road, it squeeks kinda loud. But it doesnt do it all the time.

Thanks man. The center caps are laying on my dresser right now. Just been real busy lately. And sorry for the low quality pics and stuff... I had to use some cheap camera, and didn't really know what angle you guys wanted. But in my personal oppinion, the springs make a huge difference in looks.

I parked at walmart the other day, behind some guy in a laser red GT. Basically identical to my car, with the expception of the 2 exrtra cylinders. And he started talking to me about my car, and asked me if it was a GT. He obviously didnt know too much about new edge stangs, to be able to see all the obvious clues that mine wasn't a v8. But still, it made me feel kinda good. Like Im actually making it look pretty decent.

The drop is definetly worth it. My shocks/struts will be upgraded soon, and hopefully some bullitt side scoops in the near future. But damn what I would give for coilovers, even though its just a stock sixer,

I want coilovers too but I am going to wait a little while unless I stumble across a deal that is to good to pass on. I am glad I picked up those Bullitt scoops when I did. They raised the price by $70 yesterday  Mine are going to be here Monday and I hope to have them painted and installed within the next two weeks.

dibs if you ever sell them :D

And if you, or anyone else wants some different angles of the car or whatever just let me know. Not exactly the best photographer, but would really like to get involved in it too- get a good camera, that way I can have yet another hobby to blow money on. ha

Take my word for it, you don't want any more hobbies. Especially not an expensive like photography. :p I have too many hobbies to juggle :D and none of them are cheap.
