doobie's funhouse picture thread!
so i took the leap up from the D60 to the D300 last week. only got to use it once (aside from just goofing around with it) at my friend's show on saturday.
one of the things i absolutely LOVE about this thing is the multi point metering. going from 3 point on the D60 to a huge grid is absolutely amazing. anyhow, here are two from the bunch that i just grabbed, haven't done any editing, jack was just nagging that he wanted to see SOMETHING! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3642/...f9327a78_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2654/...6058d962_b.jpg |
Damn, that 2nd pic is badass!

Excellent shots!
Damn i was hoping for the EXIF info. And are you crazy? you brought a $1699 MSRP camera to the bar? lol.... Dude, get this grip, i have one for the D90, same manufacturer.. Get yoself into the magical world of 8FPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its like a machine gun! http://www.amazon.com/Zeikos-ZE-NBG3...4190567&sr=8-1 thats 51 point focusing, not metering. lol. :poke: But i know what you mean, i have 11 instead of 3 and it makes a hellufa difference. I dont know if you have played with the 3D Focusing yet but it definatly works well. I did a small shoot at the CWD group as they were bite training thier dogs, lots of movement, running, etc, very dynamic thing to shoot, once i set it to 3d tracking it nailed the focus down on about 90% of the shots rather than the 60-70% in focus i got with the D40 when shooting such a thing. Welcome to the world of HIGH-ISO. lol. |
Maaan, I can't wait till I get mine.

That first picture is unbelievable.. It's like crystal clear, awesome.

Hell yeah mang, 50mm 1.8 for the win!
Good shot, specially with 1/50 shutter speed, you held it pretty solid. Dont be afraid to rock the 2500 ISO, you could have bumped up the shutter speed or stepped up the aperature and gottan a tad bit crisper. Oh yah, so, i dunno bout the D300, the D90 has the ability to throw the ISO on the top LCD and be controlled with the rear wheel without the use of the ISO button if you set it for EASY ISO. Dunno if the D300 can do the same, but ive pretty much sworn off auto iso, with the range of 50 to 6400 possible ive found it invaluable in my shot taking decisions. Oh yah, Hey, put yer lens cap on, AF-S autofocus mode, and then half-depress the release. How long does the D300 take to knock the 50mm 1.8 from 0 to infinity back to 0? D90 pulls off a round trip in just about 1 second. The D300 is supposed to have a better AF motor. the sad thing is the D90 AF motor w/ 50mm 1.8 focuses better and faster than the 18-55, 55-200 or the 35mm 1.8 AF-S Camera: Nikon D300Exposure:0.02 sec (1/50)Aperture:f/2.8Focal Length:50 mmExposure:0.00ISO Speed:1600Exposure Bias:0 EVFlash:No Flash File Size:3.8 MBFile Type:JPEGMIME Type:image/jpegImage Width:2848Image Height:4288Encoding Process:Baseline DCT, Huffman codingBits Per Sample:8Color Components:3X-Resolution:300 dpiY-Resolution:300 dpiSoftware:Ver.1.10Date and Time (Modified):2009:09:28 16:40:59Artist:DARBYExposure Program:ManualDate and Time (Original):2009:09:27 01:02:16.74-05:00Date and Time (Digitized):2009:09:27 01:02:16Max Aperture Value:1.7Metering Mode:SpotLight Source:UnknownSub Sec Time Original:74Sub Sec Time Digitized:74Sensing Method:One-chip color areaCFAPattern:[Red,Green][Green,Blue]Custom Rendered:NormalExposure Mode:ManualWhite Balance:Auto |

i've always been a little hesitant to bump the ISO up because of the nasty noise on digital and the grain in film. now that i've seen what this camera can do, i'll definitely experiment with it
on the D40 3200 was absolutly terrible. |

3200 is very usable on the D90, not ideal, but usable.

btw, Jack, the D300 can pretty much hit near 8fps without that grip! i was shocked at how fast it pops of a set of exposures. like, halfway through the night the camera stopped taking pictures and i said WHAT THE F*CK?!?! and i thought the battery was fubar. then i realized the display said "FULL", i plowed through 4GB like it was nothing.

lol.. you shooting raw? the D300 can save Jpeg as 14 bit i think, as good as raw as far as im concerned when it comes to post processing and such. i have two 8 gig cards on the way, in fine jpeg i should be able to get 1000 per card. |
