Mustang in Nascar?

Alright, just as a pre-actual-post thing I just want to say that ABSOLUTELY NO NASCAR HATING IS ALLOWED in this thread. Nascar may not be a sport that you are into, but please grant me and other fans the respect that we would give to you loons and your crazy sports. :D

Alright, so to catch folks up...

Nascar has three top series. The:

Sprint Cup Series

Nationwide Series

http://pix.crash.net/motorsport/360/510733.jpg

Camping World Truck Series

For the Nationwide Series, competition has gotten to the point where they desperately need a safer car. In 2007 the then Nextel Cup Series (now Sprint Cup) updated their cars from basically a higher powered version of the current Nationwide Series car, to what is known best as the COT car or Car Of Tomorrow. It's called this for it's improved safety aspect, as well as the better racing it provides. Nascar in the more recent past has been known for extreme aerodynamics, and if there was the slightest fault in your aero package, you'd likely fall back and finish last. The COT is a higher standing car meaning it will punch a bigger whole in the air allowing all cars near it to "draft" up to it and thus creates closer, more competitive racing. With the safety aspect, as a higher car the driver has more headroom, and the drivers seat was moved more towards the center of the car - so, providing a terrible accident occurrs the chance of a head and/or neck injury is lower. That amond literally thousands of safety advances even going as far as having a rope tied to the rear deck so if an accident knocks it off to fly into the grandstands it stays with the car...it's neat.

Anyway, the racing in the nationwide series has seriously increased lately and they desperately need a car that is safer. I know two former nationwide drivers who have been seriously injured and can no longer race because of racing accidents, and any safety improvements would definitely be a benefit...

(here comes the important stuff)

The above picture is a computer rendering of what the new Nationwide COT type car would look like...opinions? lol.

I know I typed WAY too much just to say "opinions?", but yeah...

Here's a real picture of a potentional Nationwide Series Dodge Challenger

Anyway...that is all.

Remember - Keep the NASCAR hating out.

lmao..

Now I'm not gonna know who to pull for, 'cause I'm a Chevy guy when it comes to Nascar. Now that the Mustangs will be coming, IDK... I'll still never be a Mr. Ed (Edwards) fan.

00blkstanggt 07-29-2009 07:19 AM

Nascar sucks... Just messin with ya. I think both cars look kinda ugly. I do like how they want to introoduce the mustang and challenger, but I think they need to work on the body a bit more.

krazypony 07-29-2009 08:05 AM

yeah the body of them do need some work for sure...

You're a Chevy guy when it comes to Nascar? Like who? Stewart? I'd be cool with that. Stewart is my #2, but I understand you not liking Mr. Edwards -- he's not really a fan favorite. Anyway, I'm a Roush Racing fan in general. Kenseth, Biffle, Ragan, Edwards (never been much of a McMurray fan since he joined Roush, but I think he'll do good at Yates next year). Anyway, Biffle lives a couple miles from where I used to live in Vancouver, Wash so I've always cheered for him just because. I'm also a locals fan, so I cheer on the FRR #78 whenever they're on track, although Indy was our worst finish this year. I'm actually trying to talk to the team to see if they'll let me tag along one of these times to let me take some pictures and write a story for a paper up here.

WNRacing 07-29-2009 09:42 AM

J. Gordon, Stewart, Vickers, Ky Busch, Biffle, Allmendinger, Ku Busch, Newman are pretty much the only guys that I pull for on a regular Basis, I think that Regan Smith is a way underestimated talent that just needs a good car and I can't wait until Kesselowski (sp?) gets his shot at a full time ride. Reutimann is a pretty cool guy too.

Can't stand Edwards, Johnson, Montoya, Speed, Logano, R. Gordon, and a few others for various reasons.. And the rest.. I don't really care either way.

zigzagg321 07-29-2009 09:48 AM

wow that thing is UGLY! thats supposed be be a mustang???

NASCAR = FAIL

King 07-29-2009 07:20 PM

Here is something I found in regards to the cup COT car that people who don't "get it" might understand better.

http://doyounascar.com/wp-content/up...cot_jayski.jpg

But Evan....Kyle Busch...seriously? He is probably the only guy I actually put the effort in to root against. The guy has talent, I'll give him that...but he can't control it. It's like having the ability to fly, but occasionally flying into buildings. It's cool that he's got so much skill to compete in literally anything, but he's torn up so many racecars of his own and others that he's too much of a liability. Not to mention that it's hard to make friends on the track if you're not reliable emotionally...the guy has a temper tantrum over the slightest things. If he gets his temper in control and kept from tearing up racecars every weekend then I say put him in the hall of fame now. But until then, keep him away from my #99. I know you sort of have a personal thing against Edwards because of Baby Grands back in the day, but he's been my #1 since Roush picked him up. I actually cheer for all Roush drivers, especially Biffle too because he lives a couple miles from my old house in Vancouver, Wash.

Oh and Zig - Read the fine print in my first post. ;)

WNRacing 07-29-2009 07:48 PM

All I've got to say is if I was starting a team tomorrow, Kyle Busch would be my driver. Period. The guy HATES to lose. His temper is getting better, and honestly, I think it's all a farse put on to keep everyone talking.. The bottom line though is that you know when he steps foot in the car he is going to give 150% and do whatever he has to do to win. That's the kind of driver that I can't have any problem with.

He understands the car, he can break down what it's doing and give you all of the feedback you could ever need. I think he can literally drive anything and be competitive, if not dominant the first time out.. Seriously, saying "he's got talent" is a MAJOR understatement. What does he have now, like 54 wins in Nascar's top 3 series in like what, 4 or 5 years?? I don't know man, I've been a Gordon fan since like '95/96 and everyone HATED him, just like they hate Kyle and it was for one reason, because he won too much.

King 07-29-2009 08:01 PM

No, people hate him because his crew used to be called the rainbow warriors and he used to have a mustache that made him look like a YMCA-dude wanna-be, lol.

And I'll keep my statement left with "he's got talent". Bottom line is he's a douchebag and when he doesn't win, he wrecks half of the field. I know a lot of his attitude is an act, but it still doesn't fix the fact that he is an actual douchebag.

I didn't realize that you knew Kyle Busch personally........

King 07-29-2009 08:10 PM

No, but I know Kevin Harvick's spotter and from the type of stuff I've heard about him, he's a douchebag. And then you have TV Kyle Busch who is a douchebag as well...

LOL, it's just too easy to get you all riled up..

I don't care what kind of an attitude the guy has, he gets the job done much better than most of the other drivers out there. He knows he's good, he knows he can beat pretty much anybody on the track with him and he's not afraid to be an arrogant prick.. There was another guy like that not too long ago.. You might have heard of him, he hated to lose, he'd do anything to win, and he drove a black car with the number 3 on it.

King 07-29-2009 08:21 PM

No.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Big E was a role model, Shrub isn't there yet. The only person on the track that even resembles Big E is Stewart.

King 07-29-2009 08:23 PM

...and I get riled up about things that matter. Baby Busch is no Earnhardt....no Senior anyway - he's kind of like Junior in a way...except he runs up front before he wrecks.

whitestang04 07-29-2009 08:38 PM

I don't follow Nascar but I like the idea of the musclecars mixing it up on track.

Dude, you really need to learn your Nascar.. Or at least the History of Earnhardt. No offense, but Kyle and Sr. were very much alike at the same point in their careers. Back in the late 70's, early 80's Earnhardt was kind of like Ricky Bobby in Talladega nights, if he wasn't first, he was last. He'd wreck anyone to win, even if that meant taking himself out in the same wreck. He was hated, much like Rusty Wallace in his hay day. Dale Earnhardt didn't become a "Role Model," hell he wasn't even liked in Nascar until the late 80's. Seriously, think back to the Epic battles between Sr and other drivers like Waltrip, Elliot, Labonte and Wallace, the fans and drivers alike hated him, but no one could stop him.

Earhnard Sr. was known for being immature, for being a loose cannon, but he had talent and just like Kyle, it took him a while to really hone those skills and become the man that he is remembered for being. I'm pretty sure though that anyone with 50+ wins in 5 years in any top series has pretty much earned the right to act damn near however he wants.

That's my two cents. Take it or leave it.

King 07-29-2009 09:28 PM

Leave it. :p

For the record, I never saw any of those races...I only lived in the 80s for four days y'know. lol.

I've only watched nascar since '97/'98...so I remember Sr. like Stewart is now. Powerhouse, always competitive, races hard and when he's upset about something he let's people know.

Also...I never once heard of Senior denying an interview to continue on with a tissy fit.

Yeah, that was the older, more mature Earnhardt. The young Dale Earnhardt was a high-school drop out, only cared about driving race cars and winning at any cost, went through two failed marriages and was basically an all around mess.

I was only born in '87 so I don't have you beat by much, but I honestly am a die-hard Nascar fan to the core. I've watched tons of races from the 80's and read a lot of books & articles on drivers, both past and present.

You also have to remember that when Sr. was young, there were no TV interviews, they weren't in your face right after the race trying to get a good TV moment. I promise you that if that had been the case then that you would have seen much of the same out of Earnhardt.

And don't even try to compare Busch to Jr. Earnhardt Jr. honestly is just riding on his daddies coat tails, he hasn't shown any talent to speak of and really has only had success in the "Bush" series and that was pretty much because they had the most dominant cars for about 5 years running with Childress.

Leonide 08-02-2009 02:22 PM

ugly, but at least they are using mustangs. :D

good effort, King.
