the mustang club of america requires that you have a fire extinguisher in your car at there shows..so i had to get one .. i think it looks best in the glove compartment so i can open it up at shows then put it away .what do you guys think?

haha put it in your trunk and put a NOS sticker on it.

The glove compartment is very clever.

Why do they require a fire extinguisher at a car show? I'm not even required to have one for track days, though I've thought about getting one. Where did you get yours and how much did it set you back? Come with any mounting brackets?

I have one fixed to my roll-bar. Fires pure nitrogen, not FM200 or Dry Chemical. Safe for use under the hood and inside the passenger compartment. Still working on the distribution system for it. Also thinking about moving to a cold-fire 3 nozzle setup.

Uh.. Not sure if you were aware of this, but you will not be safe if you use halon. You have to be out of the car if you have a halon system installed.

engineman312 05-03-2009 04:43 PM

its something else to be graded on, just like a first aid kit.

nope was not aware of that, some one told me that was the best kind to have in a car ..oh well i'm just going to stick with the cheap o

whitestang04 05-04-2009 09:39 AM

IIRC Halon depletes the oxygen wherever it's released causing the fire to be suffocated and that is also why you wouldn't want to be in the car with it. I've only seen halon systems used in race cars.

r3dn3ck 05-04-2009 01:10 PM

halon is bad if breathed in. nitrogen does the same thing but it's relatively harmless to breathe since the atmosphere is 70%ish nitrogen. It is not safe to breathe more than once or twice though as there's no oxygen in it.

Leonide 05-04-2009 07:58 PM

do NOT buy Halon systems that the Army used in M1-A1's, i see them going off all the time in Driver's faces. it really sucks.

spike_africa 05-05-2009 06:43 AM

Thats retarded that you need one at a car show.
