I've got more, I'm just having computer problems again which is why it's taken me two days alone just to upload these photos. I will upload more, I just need to get them on my computer first.

Lighting....it was cloudy, really really cloudy.

We have had more time to learn how to use ours. The Nikon D40 and D60 have better metering than the D50 as well.

Conrgats on the camera! What lens did you get with it?

Im suprised you got the D50, that was the predesessor to the D40.

one great thing about the D50 is it has the internal autofocus motor, so it has better compatibility with older lenses.

go get a 50mm 1.8 lens off amazon for $109. then let me borrow it.

How do you like the camera so far?

What mode were those pics taken in? Stay the hell away from the digi-vari modes (landscape, child, action, night) and play around in P to get good pics, once you get better start using S to work on shutter speed and A to get better bokeh and to play with the dof.

Those were taken in .raw then converted to .jpeg and my mode was sport. Can't figure out MASP yet. And the lenses I got with it were the 50mm 1.8 (you'll have to come to town to borrow it), the 28-90mm and the 70-300mm 1:4-5.6

They look good. To be honest, just a little bit of touch ups in photoshop would radically improve those photos.

It's sent, but I just think there has to be a way to take higher quality shots that don't need as much PS as mine do..

If you're shooting in raw, it's as high quality as you can get, because it's the direct sensor data that the camera receives.

I'll look at the pic when I get home in an hour.

Yah that 50mm is a hell of a deal. I wish my D40 would autofocus on it. But the D40, D40x and D60 lack the internal motor, which seems a direction Nikon is going for.

Stay out of the DIGI VARI programs! I mean it.

P or (Propgram) mode is the best to first start learning.
It allows you to control the Exposure setting and it auto configs the Aperature and Shutter speed. i do about 70-80% of my shooting in this mode.

S) lets you control the shutter speed, it then changes the Aperature (F x.x) as needed to nail down the exposure you selected. I use this when im trying to either achieve a blur, or if im trying to get high speed action shots.

A), you control aperature, the camera adjusts the shutter speed to nail down the exposure you selected. This is great for portrait, some macro work, great for Bokeh.

M) you have to figure out everything, this is a waste of time in my view for most shooting, let the camera do some of the dirty work. As you learn more about Aperature, Shutter, and Exposure and how to work them you will find M is awesome to get those certain shots the camera cannot figure out on its own like macro work, high contrast photo's, or other scenarios or creative photography that the auto programs cannot take into account. I use this one when i want to use multiple flashes on an exposure to do trick shots, or for start or moon shots, etc. It gives you 100% control, however, unless you expect to have the time to try, shoot, check, try, shoot, check, try, shoot check, untill you nail it down, use the other modes or you just may miss a great shot.


A note on aperature, this is kind of the trickiest part to figure out. a Low F-number means a bigger opening in the aperature, a high F-number is a smaller opening in the aperature.

The larger the opening, the faster the shutter speed you can use, and the more bokeh you get with a narrorwer depth of focus (field)

the smaller the aperature opening, the slower the shutter speed needs to be, but it offers a far greater depth of focus(field)

Ive done some shooting in RAW, but unless you plan to do a lot of post processing to clean up the pics due to a lack of proper test shooting, it can really just be more of a space hog than anything else.

All the photos i have posted up on here have been JPEG FINE.

Ill use raw if im working on a particular shot that im having a hard time nailing down.

bokeh is where it's at. good thing my canon is a piece of shit and focuses on everything in the picture even if its 5 miles away.

The first two animal shots look quite good in my opinion, I think the cloud cover definitely hindered the pics of the car. Screaming yellow is hard enough to photograph in correct light, much less low light, makes it look like mustard.. lol

One thing that I notice is that you seem to have a lot of distance in the shots of your car, most automotive photographers will tell you to get much closer and use up most of the frame with just the car alone because the other objects tend to detract from what you're really trying to focus on.

I honestly want a DSLR so bad I can't hardly stand it, I'm really tempted to start looking for one again, but I need to keep stock piling my cash for another Mustang.. Trying to wait for the '10 to come out and kill some of the 197's value..

Wheels, JLT RAI, short-shifter....all done by the previous owner. The only thing I've done is the DVD/NAV thing unfortunately. I'm a college student with a car payment and no job at the moment so I'm a little light in the wallet. Especially after buying the camera.

I've explained this before but it's been a while so I'll do it again. Behind both the front plate holder and the dealership sticker are scratches and chips in the paint. I have touchup paint ready, but it hasn't been warm enough to put it on. Plus, I like the front plate thing, sorta. I'll be getting an '03/'04 Termi FB when I can afford it...so I'll deal with it like this for now. As for the antenna? Yeah, it's not the greatest, but it really adds to the whole black on yellow theme.

Nope, I attached it. It came up as .neg instead of .raw for whatever reason. I know it attached, so I don't know. Maybe that file won't send. Would you rather the .jpeg?

I can't do as much with the jpeg as I can with the raw. It's cool, don't worry about it.

Really? I edit jpegs all of the time in PS and they come out good.

Yeah, but you can't edit white balance, exposure, etc anywhere near as good as a raw file.
