Can you guys tell what brand of clutch or what type of clutch this is just by looking at these pics? :D This is what is gettin put into my stang currently.

That looks to me like a stock replacement. I will look it up but I even think I know the brand. Give me a few minutes.

spike_africa 12-29-2008 05:57 PM

looks like a stocker to me too.

Looks like the stock replacement from a company called Valeo (They started making Ford replacements a few years back). I remember now after looking at it and then going to a parts website. All I can tell you is run - my buddy put one in his car and it lasted a mere 3 months. You have to understand he did the break in as per Fords recomendation and that of the clutch maker and it was junk in no time flat in fact he put almost 5k on it (he drives alot) first time he shifted hard - not extreme but went to pass somebody the pedal faded and with in 100 miles it was junk. It was installed by the dealer, so it was installed properly and had a proper break in. When he took it back the dealer said " yeah we have had a lot of bring backs on those, they aren't great units". So now he has a Spec Stage 1 - its just a bolt on car.

It could also be a Ram factory replacement they look almost identical but I am thinking it is likely the Valeo.
They are made in Mexico and Korea if I remember correctly. Look on the disk or the pressure plate. The only stock replacement I would use would be the Ram - it is also gray and around the same price.

I hope this helps.

that can't be stock. I just pulled my stock one about a month ago, and my GT had 4 springs. 5 springs = better, it looks like a "stage one (I don't know any other way to put it)" clutch.
problably just about perfect for your aplication.

Badfish 12-29-2008 08:03 PM

spec?

lazyhomie1908 12-29-2008 08:39 PM

Well guys appreciate feedback and it is a stage 1 pretty much. I got it FOR FREE from a friend who works at an auto parts he hooked it up and no its not valeo lol. As a college student thats where my money goes. I am paying about 250 with the resurfacing of the flywheel and installation from a local garage. The clutch being a freebie I couldn't resist. All I have is bolt on's so am thinking it should better than stock due to 5 springs instead of 4 (at least I hope). What do you guys think?

Stephen4036 12-29-2008 09:47 PM

spec 1 is fine for bolt ons.

spike_africa 12-30-2008 06:11 AM

That is not a spec stage 1. Its some after market stock replacement organic material clutch. My stock one had 5 springs, not that those springs are going to make the clutch grab and hold harder.

r3dn3ck 12-30-2008 06:48 AM

ditto... it's a OEM replacement.

those springs are just there to quell chatter, they have NOTHING to do with load carrying capacity. Consider that a new stock clutch. It's fine unless you're running a blower or spending much time on the strip.

the gillz 12-30-2008 12:11 PM

it says valeo partially in white letters on the second pic

lazyhomie1908 12-30-2008 12:16 PM

Yeah definitely not running a blower or anything of that sort. go to the strip every so often but nothing crazy. I will be getting it back today and I'll let you guys know how it feels ill post up pics of the old one.

Good catch I was tired last night and didn't see that.

lazyhomie1908, it will last you and be ok, I just don't recommend driving like you stole it or it will like you stole it.

Hey guys well these are the pics from my old one stock one. Any information on what might have caused this clutch to go bad. When i replaced it it was still grabbing but made loud ass sh sh sh sh sh sounds even when in neutral or gear. The sound changed when pressing in the clutch. There seems to be some grip left on the clutch though some of the grooves were still deep and some were almost flush with the rest. The flywheel side seemed to be more worn down. There was also like some ash coming off from it as soon as you touch any part of the clutch. Anywho its been replaced now but any idea why it did what it did by looking at the pics? I can take so more if u guys want just let me no. :D

spike_africa 12-31-2008 07:25 AM

It was the throw out bearing not the clutch making that noise. However while you have it apart I would of swapped clutches too.

lazyhomie1908 12-31-2008 10:15 AM

Yeah thats what I decided to do. I am already in there might as well. If you look at the pressure plate doesn't it look like if it was heated up or something? The whole clutch had some sort of black ashy dust on it? Does this mean the clutch was slipped alot or what does it mean?
