PERFECT WHITE BALANCE TRICK.

When shooting indoors, or in heavily shaded areas it can be tricky to nail down white balance, and the preset white balance points usually arent all that great. This is a trick to achieve perfect white balance.

I read about this the other day on the nikon forum boards, and holy shit it works AWESOME.

So white balance, ive just been using auto most of the time, and ill just correct it in photoshop if it was off.

Not anymore. I read about this technique and i can testify it works AWESOME. Sorry, but i forgot to bring pictures.

There are various ways to make this, this is the methodi used.

2 UV filters and a coffee filter.

Put a UV Filter down on the coffee filter and with a razorblade cut around the UV filter so you get a disc made of the coffee filter. Inset it into the female end of the filter, then screw another filter on top of that, so basically you have 2 filters sandwiched together with a disc of coffee filter in the middle.

HOW TO USE IT

Go stand where your subject is. Screw on the UV Coffee Filter sanwich. In the menu go to wwhuite balance, select PRE(not sure the selection on cannon) and opt to take a reference photo for white balance. Then aaim the camera at the point of light and snap a pic. It will read this data and apply it as the new white balance. Then take the filter off, and take a shot of the subject. BAM! perfect white balance.

Last night in my kitchen i tried this, first on AUTO white balance mode and the pic came off yellowish.

Then i tried it on the Indoors setting and it came out a little bit better but still yellow.

Then i shot it using this trick and BAM! the difference was incredible, this REALLY works, it is dirt cheap and if you make it like i did with a couple 2 dollar amazon.com UV filters for just a few bucks you can have a good tool for achieveing perfect white balance.

This is basically the same thing as an EXPODISC, it works just as well but does not cost 90 bucks.

If you just want to test this out and see how it works without using the uv filter sandwich, just get a coffee filter, weap it around your lens and use a rubber band or something to hold it on, you will see how awesome this works.
